Kim Kardashian's travel pillow, Gwyneth Paltrow's 'silver' spray and Miranda Kerr's face oil: The in-flight essentials stars swear by revealed

  • Miranda Kerr, Cara Delevingne and Lily Aldridge all use rose essences
  • Sunglasses are the only way to hide tired eyes post long-haul flights
  • Gwyneth Paltrow sprays her seat with 'colloidal silver' to banish germs

It can be annoying when celebrities dole out irrelevant life advice, but if there's one thing they are all experts in, it's travel.

So it might be worth knowing, for example, that countless stars - men included - have raved about the benefits of rose oil when it comes to quenching the skin on long-haul flights.

Or that both Miranda Kerr and Kim Kardashian bang on about the importance of silk when it comes to eye masks and pillow cases.

Here, MailOnline Travel has unearthed tips from 12 stars who spend half their lives in the air, including model Chrissy Teigen (pictured) who swears by in-flight face masks

As for the wackier travel essentials, you can always count on Gwyneth Paltrow to deliver, as she does with the 'colloidal silver' she sprays all over her seat to nuke germs.

Or Cara Delevingne, who has a fondness for her Ostrich pillow - effectively a giant squishy helmet that allows your head total seclusion from the rest of the aircraft.

Always at the top of the list when it comes to in-flight beauty advice - no matter who you ask - is water, water and more water. An exceptionally dull secret to success but at least one we can all replicate.

Here, MailOnline Travel has unearthed tips from 12 stars who spend half their lives in the air for emerging looking and feeling less like Gollum. Other than to fly everywhere first class, of course.

Miranda Kerr

Miranda Kerr, perhaps the most virtuous frequent flier of all, travels with face oils from her own skincare line, a soft scarf, tweezers, plenty of water, and advises no alcohol

Ms Kerr, 33, says she flies at least once every ten days so she's got her routine streamlined to precision.

'I take off my make-up and apply the Kora Organics Luxurious Rosehip Oil to protect and hydrate my skin and I also spritz my face throughout the flight using one of my mists – rose, lavender or citrus,' she tells Qantas, for whom she is an ambassador.

She also travels everywhere with a cashmere hoodie, soft scarf and a silk eye mask, as well as lip balm, menthol rub, tweezers, and a rose-quartz crystal to aid her meditation.

If that doesn't sound virtuous enough, she also eschews alcohol on-board and consumes gallons of vitamin-infused water instead.

Kim Kardashian

Ms Kardashian, 35, once revealed in one of her make-up tutorial videos that when she flies, she breaks the number one cardinal sin of beauty - snoozing in her make-up.

'I sleep in my make-up when I travel,' she revealed. 'I use black satin pillowcases if I'm sleeping on a flight and heading straight to an event.'

Silk and satin are known to be extra-gentle on the skin and massively reduce bed hair, and the reality star opts for black to disguise any orange foundation stains that might transfer from her face.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Ms Paltrow, queen of Goop, does the usual song and dance when she flies - moisturises and drinks lots of water, but she has a lesser-known trick up her sleeve.

'I spritz colloidal silver all over the seat, because it's a natural anti-bacterial and anti-viral,' the 44-year-old once told InStyle.

'After a plane ride I always try to have a good steam and sweat, but more than anything my best advice is to wear sunglasses when you get off the plane.'

Chrissy Teigen

Ms Teigen, 30, swears by the use of face sheet masks before landing, and unlike almost every other celebrity on the planet, she's willing to share evidence on Instagram.

The model never travels without a SK-II Facial Treatment Mask packet, which cost £10 each, to give her skin a boost before facing the next airport.

David Gandy

The 36-year-old male supermodel once said that he takes more than 90 flights a year and the only thing that saves his skin from a permanent state of dehydration is rose oil.

He claims a make-up artist got him onto it some years ago and the stuff works 'wonders'. Quite the testament.

Cara Delevingne

Yet another fan of oils and roses, Ms Delevingne, 24, told Refinery 29: 'I love rosewater spray. And, it's good to have with you to use on other people, too - I love spreading the spray.'

The model-turned-actress also rubs pure sesame-seed oil into her hair and stomach to help ease jet lag, and always travels with a Tangle Teezer hairbrush to tackle knots.

And she's been seen on more than one occasion clutching her Ostrich pillow at airports. They may look bizarre but if all you want to do, as the name suggests, is bury your head in the sand and ignore all human interaction on the plane, it's the only way forward.

Taylor Swift

Perhaps not one to try at home, but an amusing airport anecdote nonetheless.

Ms Swift, 26, admits she was once on her way to Japan when she realised she was without her make-up bag. And we all know how fond the singer is of her signature cat-eye.

Her solution? A Sharpie pen, which she used in lieu of liquid eyeliner in the airport bathroom when she landed.

Jennifer Aniston

Ms Aniston, 47, is a predictable advocate for drinking lots of water, as well as packing a salad before boarding the plane rather than trusting the airline food.

That, and a time-worn superstition. She once told Yahoo Health: 'If I walk onto an airplane, I always have to go on with my right foot first and tap the outside of the plane. I have always done it. For luck.

'Someone told me to do it, and I don't remember when that was. But it's kind of stuck.'

 Cate Blanchett

Another massive fan of the SK-II skincare line, Ms Blanchett credits her milky complexion with its Facial Treatment Oil, which she applies liberally before taking a snooze at 37,000 feet.

The 47-year-old Oscar-winner is also seldom seen at the airport without her trusty sunglasses, because as we know by now, no potion on earth is capable of banishing tired eyes.

Lily Aldridge

As a Victoria's Secret Angel, Ms Aldridge, 30, travels even more than many of her peers.

She has an in-flight fetish for supremely comfortable scarves, which she doubles up as sarongs when she gets to the beach. And, like Ms Teigen, she's a fan of the weird-looking skin masks.

'I always have those little Klorane under-eye patches that I just think are so fabulous,' she told Travel + Leisure. 'Usually an hour before landing I'll put them on and apologize to the stewardesses for scaring them when they see me.'

And of course, the floral elixir - 'those little water bottle sprays with rosewater,' she says.

Julianne Moore

For Ms Moore, 55, it's the hair that requires most attention when it comes to travel.

'I have very wavy hair,' she told InStyle. 'I always travel with a tiny hair iron for emergencies.

'It's just really good for taking any kinks out, especially if you've been on a long flight.'

Lara Stone

And to conclude, a product we can all afford: Sudocrem.

Ms Stone, 32, swears by the gloopy cream, widely used to treat nappy rash, telling W Magazine: 'I use it on planes so that by the time I land my skin looks better than when I took off.

'Although it can be slightly embarrassing as it's bright white.'
