Hit a double? Jeffrey Dean Morgan hints Negan will claim a second life in The Walking Dead's brutal season premiere

Someone on The Walking Dead is about to get an awful death... but at least they won't be alone.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan has hinted Negan will kill a second character during the season seven premiere.

In an interview with Den Of Geek, the actor revealed: 'Negan’s not just going to kill one person in [the premiere]. He’s not afraid of bashing in skulls.'

The brutal season six finale ended with the sadistic leader of The Saviors playing a game of eeny-meeny-miney-mo to select a member of Rick's crew to execute using his barbed wire-wrapped basebale bat, Lucille.

With 11 characters on their knees and at his mercy, he cheerily made his way along the line reciting the child's rhyme, until stopping and unloading on the unlucky victim.

But the POV camera of the cruel cliffhanger left fans in the dark as to who among the cast was beaten to death.

Now this latest development suggest that two people will not be going back to Alexandria.

Not done: In an interview with Den Of Geek , the actor revealed: 'Negan’s not just going to kill one person in [the premiere]. He’s not afraid of bashing in skulls.'

However the 50-year-old actor claimed that Negan isn't all that different from the show's protagonist Rick.

'I think he’s a very special character that’s got this irreverent sense of humor and this charisma,' he said. His use of the English language, I find rather brilliant.

'I view him as a guy who’s survived this long in this apocalyptic world. If this show, seven years ago, had started following Negan instead of Rick Grimes, then he would be the hero of the story.

'I don’t think he’s necessarily a hundred percent evil. I think he’s just done what he has done in order to survive this long.”

However, he did add laughing: 'I’m constantly making excuses for Negan. He’s a f*cking asshole.'

Director Greg Nicotero also hinted on AMC show Geeking Out that Negan's first kill may not even be the worst thing to happen in the episode.

Safe for now: A three minute preview of the opening episode shown at New York Comic Con last weekend showed a confrontation between Negan and a blood-spattered Rick just after the first kill, confirming Rick wasn't the first victim at least

Man down: Negan mocks Rick in the scene, asking if he had just killed his 'right hand man' - suggesting the victim was male.

'There's so much more that happens in that episode that is more heartbreaking than that moment, that by the time the episode's over it's almost too much. It's that intense,' he said.

While fan speculation has encompassed pretty much every character among the 11, the general consensus is Glen and Abraham are the unlucky duo.

Glen was Negan's original victim in the comics, while Abraham was the source material's recipient of the arrow through the eye that killed Denise instead in the show.

For the chop? The scene ends with him taking Rick's axe and dragging him inside his trailer, causing fans to speculate further that the talk of right hands could mean Negan has even more punishment to dole out, such as chopping Rick's hand off

Ouch: This fate  befell his comic book persona - although it was the Governor who was responsible for that
