'I had to go to physical therapy': Lena Dunham reveals she suffered a 'sex scene injury' during the last week of Girls... then acts out how it happened

Girls has never been a show to shy away for explicit and often awkward sex scenes.

And Lena Dunham has admitted that while filming one particular episode she injured herself so badly she had to see a specialist.

The 30-year-old appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers on Tuesday and revealed how she hurt herself during a sex scene - before acting out how it happened.

'I’m fairly accident prone and lots of things have happened to me on set,' she said. 'But in the last week of filming I ended up having to go to physical therapy because of a sex scene injury.'

Lena confessed that she was telling the male co-star she was filming the scene that she is a lot more flexible than she is, and while he was 'the perfect gentleman', she kept insisting she was fine.

'I was like, “I may not seem athletic, but I’m a beast, and my hip flexors are so open, according to my yoga teacher. I can do anything, do not worry about my body at all.”' she recalled.

'The next morning I woke up and something was very wrong. And that was Wednesday and by Friday I was pretty much immobilised.'

I'm with Her! Make a statement like Lena in her Marc Jacobs tee

Just a quick disclaimer- we're not taking sides! But that dosn't mean we can't appreciate Lena's stylish and iconic statement tee by American designer Marc Jacobs.

For all you Hillary supporters out there, we can't think of a more perfect shirt to be wearing today...especially in the aftermath of the debates. And this candidate has the backing of some of the biggest fashion powerhouses like Anna Wintour so we know this tee is tops when it comes to being in style. We've spotted this exact one worn by the Vogue Editor as well, except she paired hers with a tweed Oscar de la Renta pencil skirt.

Click to the right to buy this exact number, but check out designs from big names like Jason Wu, Joseph Altuzarra, Marchesa, Tanya Taylor in our edit below.

Pair yours like Lena with some skinny jeans and fuzzy Topshop heels (see below) or go glam with a dressy maxi skirt and gold heels like the way Anna Wintour would approve of.

Lena then stretched out across Seth's couch and re-enacted the 'wheelbarrow position', but had to stop out of fear she would hurt herself again.

The actress, writer and director went to see a physical therapist after hurting herself but at first wouldn't admit how she got her hips out of joint.

'I was like, “I had a crazy week. I ran on the beach a little bit. I took a walk uphill with some friends. I slept on a mattress at a Hilton Garden Inn, I wasn’t used to that,”' she said.

'Finally I was like, “I did wheelbarrow position and I forced a very nice man to hold my legs in a position they couldn’t go in.” I think it was ultimately a very good thing for me.'

Lena recently finished filming the final season of Girls, which will air in January, and said they always wanted to show sex in an 'unvarnished' light.

'That was our goal for sure, it definitely was not to arouse you,' she told Seth. 'Have you ever had fun having sex? I mean it’s OK. I feel enthused that I’ve done it, I can tell people I’ve done it before.'

Lena said that her final scene saw her 'wearing no pants in a field and it was raining', and that the assistant director started giving a moving speech after Jenni Konner yelled 'cut'.

'I was like, “Can someone just get me my pants?”' she joked. 'I was like, “I don’t want to hug 60 men goodbye and weep into their arms until I have my pants back.'

Lena also discussed her love of Hillary Clinton during her appearance on the late night show, and talked about how she will be campaigning across the country for the presidential candidate ahead of next month's election.

The Girls creator wore a Hillary T-shirt along with jeans, a leather jacket and heels, and discussed how she first became 'obsessed' with Clinton when she was six years old.

'I’m crazed for her,' she gushed. 'My boyfriend’s always like, “What U2 is for some people is what Hillary Clinton is to Lena.”'

Speaking about how her obsession began, Lena said: 'Honestly, I saw her on TV and I was like, “She’s so pretty.” The way everything begins. I was like, “She’s beautiful. Look at her hair, it’s so smooth, look at her face, it’s so pretty.”

'I literally asked for a bob. I had like long stringy hair and I was like, “I want a smooth bob.” My mom took me to Daffy’s, a discount store, and I bought many business separates.

'The way some children thought, “I want a poster of Yasmine Bleeth,” I was cutting pictures of Hillary Clinton out of NewsWeek like a tiny psychopath. I wrote a term paper about her tea and cookies comment. Once I was in a deli and a man said I look like Chelsea Clinton, which I do not, and I dined out on it for like six years.'

Seth also grilled Lena about Donald Trump, who once described her as 'a B-list actor with no mojo'.

And she joked in response: 'I don’t have Mojo, he wasn’t wrong. Mojo, what is that? Like you could open a Marvel movie? In my mind Margot Robbie has Mojo, like whatever that would be.

'I feel like my whole life would have been different had I had Mojo, I can’t imagine. When he’s right, he’s right.'
