'Nothing in this world would make me do drugs again': Corey Feldman, 45, says he's sober after haters accused him of being high during Today performance

Corey Feldman received a cruel backlash after a bizarre appearance on the Today Show last month.

Haters even suggested the 45-year-old Goonies actor has gone back to drinking and drugging,

But on Wednesday the former-child star told People magazine that he has been sober for 25 years and intends to remain so.

'There’s nothing in this world that would ever make me do cocaine or heroin or any of that stuff ever again,' he said.

The actor-turned-musician explained that his 12-year-old son Zen is his main motivation to stay on the straight and narrow.

'That’s where my love is and where my heart is,' he told them of Zen - whom he shares with ex-wife Susie.

He added: 'There’s no time to mope around or to be depressed, because I have to be a positive influence on him. That’s what’s most important.

'I look at his beautiful smiling face and I say, "I’ve got to stay strong for him." No matter how mean and awful people can be, I can’t let that affect me.'

Feldman was the subject of a vicious backlash after performing single Go 4 It, and said at the time that he never imagined the response, including some commentators suggesting he was back on drugs or drink.

The star told US Weekly had he not been so used to criticism the comments would have prompted him to consider suicide.

The Lost Boys actor says people even went as far as saying that he should have died early instead of best friend Corey Haim - who passed away in 2010 aged 38 from pneumonia as a result of drug abuse complications.

He told US: 'They just dive in with the worst, the nastiest, the filthiest comments I've ever read. Like, ''The wrong Corey died'' or ''Why don't you just go OD?'''

The former child star said it has taken an emotional toll: 'I don't care if you're hiding behind a computer or a keyboard - it's not an excuse. It's not acceptable.

'The somebody that you're talking about is a real person with real feelings and real emotions.

'And I'll tell you what, if I hadn't been through this one thousand times, I might've taken my life over it. And then how would everybody feel?

'That's all I could think about when I went on that plane. What if the plane crashed? I was thinking, ''What would happen if I died in a plane crash right now? How would everybody feel?'' That the last thing that I saw before I got on that plane was them calling me a piece of crap.'

The star said he broke down in tears on the plane as he and his band - or Angels as he calls them - headed back to Los Angeles from New York.

'[The Angels] were thrilled. They were like, ''Oh, my God, we did it!'' I'm like, ''Good job, everybody.'' And then I get on the plane and I immediately start sobbing. They're all looking at me like I'm crazy. They're like, ''What's your problem? We did great, right?'' I said, ''You did do great. Unfortunately, nobody seemed to like what I did. But that's all right.''
