  • Tom Wilson,28, was concerned about his 24-year-old wife Lillian Vilchez's inability to keep her work separate from their home life

A Married at First Sight star whose husband called her unattractive refused to move back into her marital home despite the advice of the show's relationship experts.

On Tuesday night's episode of the FYI reality series, Sonia Granados, 33, admitted that she still wasn't ready to move back in with her husband Nick Pendergrast, 32, after their explosive fight — even though she had accepted his apology.

'I absolutely see how it can be perceived as giving up, but it's not that I don't like him,' she told the cameras. 'I think I need space. I kind of want to just collect my thoughts and come back when I feel comfortable.'

At the start of the episode, Nick admitted that he wasn't sure how to even be friends with Sonia at this point in their marriage.

'I want her to come back and live together as a married couple,' he told the cameras.

Sonia had moved out after she and Nick had an explosive fight in which he said he wasn't attracted to her — even though they had been physically intimate on numerous occasions.

Dr. Pepper Schwartz, one of the show's three relationship experts, noted that Nick and Sonia have been a 'hard couple to track', but she could see that he was making a strong effort to save his marriage.

During her video chat with the couple, the sociologist told Sonia it was time for her to move back into her marital home, so her relationship with Nick could grow.

Sonia admitted to Dr. Pepper that she had thought about moving back in, but she had 'conflicting feelings'.

'If Sonia stays at her own place, it could be too much for them, and ultimately it could end in divorce,' Dr. Pepper told the cameras.

Relationship expert Rachel DeAlto also believes that Nick and Sonia are a great match, and she had them do an exercise in which they asked each other about their expectations for marriage and other questions that would help them build a deeper connection.

When Sonia asked her husband if he could invite anyone — dead or alive — to a dinner party, Nick revealed that he would invite his grandmother, who died last year.

Nick, who had trouble with opening up in the past, told Sonia all about his grandmother and how close they were.

Although Sonia was happy to see Nick letting her in, she still chose to go home to her own apartment. However, Nick didn't believe that her constantly leaving was good for their marriage, which she signed up for whole-heartedly.

'Not living here is not really a whole-hearted thing,' he told the cameras after he walked Sonia to her car.

Sonia admitted that her refusal to move back in with Nick looked like she was giving up, but she insisted that she just wasn't ready.

To show that she was still invested in the marriage, she had her father see Nick for the first time since they said 'I do', and her husband was understandably nervous about the meeting.

Knowing how close his wife is with her dad, Nick explained that Sonia's father coming over could be 'good' or 'bad' for their marriage, depending on the outcome.

Before Sonia and her father arrived, Nick cleaned up the house, explaining that first impressions last.

Nick admitted to the cameras that he was also nervous because although he didn't know how much Sonia's dad knew about their marriage and her reasons for moving out, he deduced that it was probably a lot because they were so close.

Sonia's father didn't waste any time, and as soon as he sat down, he asked what Nick's expectations for marriage were and whether he saw himself being with Sonia forever.

However, Nick didn't waver when he said: 'For sure, and that was my expectation from the get-go.'

Nick explained that he thought their marriage got off track because they immediately started acting like a married couple as soon as they said 'I do'.

Sonia's dad urged them to 'just talk' as he revealed that he believes their marriage could last if they work on it.

Despite her father's stamp of approval, Sonia said she was still hesitant about moving back in with Nick.

Meanwhile, Nick seemed happy to learn that Sonia's dad was invested in their marriage as well.

Nick later taught Sonia how to golf, and she was impressed with how supportive he was being. She told the cameras that his actions definitely helped her start to trust him again.

'I hope she is willing to see how much I really care about her,' he told the cameras.

At the end of the episode, Sonia came over to help him give his beloved dogs a bath, and even though she used to be terrified of the pets, she realized she missed them.

They had such a good time together that Sonia contemplated sleeping over, and 'maybe' moving back in. However, in a preview for next week's episode, it appears that she is still resisting the idea of coming back home to Nick.

Meanwhile, Lillian Vilchez, 24, leaned on her husband Tom Wilson, 28, for support, as she debated whether or not she should call her father, who checked out of her life when her parents got divorced.

Lillian's dad didn't even know that she got married, and she told the cameras that she does wish that her husband and father 'will meet one day'.

When Tom walked into their bedroom, Lillian revealed that it was her father's birthday, and she was contemplating calling him.

Tom, who also has a strained relationship with his father, told his wife that he still calls him because it makes him feel good to make the effort — even if his dad won't do the same in return.

Although she ended up taking Tom's advice, Lillian's call went straight to voice mail.

'Tom was great. I couldn't just call my dad,' she told the cameras. 'I needed him to be there for me.'

Lillian immediately broke down in tears after she hung up the phone, but Tom was there to comfort her.

Both Tom and Lillian had their moms come visit them for Mother's Day, but Lillian was upset that she had lost a client on the day of their arrival.

One of Tom's main reservations about his wife is that she is unable to sustain a healthy work-life balance, however, he was impressed that she was able to be such an engaging hostess during their mothers' visits despite the ongoing stress.

The couple also took their mothers to a paint night, and while Lillian followed the instruction because she wanted her painting to be perfect, Tom did his own thing.

Thinking outside the box: Tom and Lillian also enjoyed a paint night with their moms, but she was concerned that her husband refused to follow instructions

'He never follows the group,' Tom's mom said of her son.

And while Tom was worried about Lillian's dedication to her work, she was concerned that he was unable to truly be a part of a team because of his desire to constantly do his own thing.

On their last outing with their moms, Lillian bonded with Tom's mother, who noted that her son needs constant love and attention.

Meanwhile, Tom struggled to ask Lillian's mother for her blessing in Spanish. Although it took a few moments for him to get his point across, Lillian's mom nodded yes to show that she approves of him being married to her daughter.

'I am happy. You are a good man,' she told them when they hugged.

Although Tom and Lillian seem to have the strongest relationship of all three of the couples, a preview for next week's episode shows them both having doubts about their marriage because of how different they really are.

This week's episode also focused on Derek Schwartz, 35, and his soon-to-be ex-wife Heather Seidel, 32.

Although Heather already asked for a divorce, which Derek amicably agreed to, they both wanted to learn from their brief marriage.

The experts had the former couple ask their most trusted friends to give them an honest assessment on the things that they can do to improve themselves.

While getting drinks with his ex, Derek's former girlfriend admitted that he lacked patience and had a short fuse, something that was clearly an issue in his marriage to Heather.

Meanwhile, Heather was a bit surprised to hear her friend say that she could be 'kind of harsh' and comes off as 'very pretentious or stuck up'.

Despite their friends' somewhat harsh assessments, they both realized they wanted to work on their issues before entering new relationships.
