New Rogue One: A Star Wars Story poster with Felicity Jones, Darth Vader and the Deathstar is released ahead of fresh trailer

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be released just before Christmas.

And on Wednesday a new poster for the scifi epic was released that showed the film's star Felicity Jones front and center with the blue prints for the Deathstar on the side of her face. Her male costars are placed before her and in the background is a faint image of Darth Vader.

This comes the day before Disney is set to release a fresh trailer for the prequel that takes place before 1977's Star Wars: A New Hope.

The men in front of her include Forrest Whitaker, Donnie Yen, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Wen Jiang and Riz Ahmed.

There is also a human-like droid made of gunmetal grey.

Rogue One is about the crew assembled that will steal the blue prints for the Deathstar, which Luke Skywalker eventually blew up in the 1977 film.

In that first Star Wars movie Princess Leia, played by Carrie Fisher, announces a lot of people died to get the blue prints.

Several short trailers have already been shared for Rogue One, showing Jones as a angry woman who has been asked to join the Rebellion.

The 65-year-old Disney Chairman revealed that he had met with Star Wars producer Kathleen Kennedy where they 'reviewed' and 'mapped out' plans for the franchise up to 2020.

According to Comic Book Movie, Bob revealed the plans, saying: 'I had a meeting yesterday with [producers] Kathy Kennedy and we mapped out - well, we reviewed - the Star Wars plans that we have until 2020.

'We have movies in development for Star Wars until then, and we started talking about what we're going to do in 2021 and beyond.'

With an untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story film due in 2018 and Star Wars: Episode IX slated for 2019, it is believed the film will be the third installment in the anthology series.

Rumours have already been circulating that Disney have primed fan-favourite bounty hunter Boba Fett to star in the series - though nothing has been confirmed.

Before it was announced that the second stories film would center around the 'scruffy-looking nerf herder' Han Solo, rumours were wife that Disney were planning to launch Boba Fett into a lead role.

Earlier this year in July it was officially confirmed that the Han Solo project was in the making.

At the same time they also confirmed Alden Ehrenreich would be playing the younger version of Harrison Ford's charming smuggler - though it's not known if he'll be making the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs.

And while Disney have now confirmed they have a significant long-term plan stretching into the next decade for Star Wars, they are still testing the waters with Rogue One.

Describing the film as 'experimental', Bob was keen to play down expectations that it would match the incredible $2 billion box office haul that The Force Awakens managed.

Conceding that expectation among the public had surprised everyone involved, Bob tentatively said: 'We never felt it would do the level that Force Awakens did.

'[But] the level of interest [in Rogue One] is as high as it was for Force Awakens. It's really interesting in terms of Star Wars storytelling.

'Star Wars has only been told as a saga, and this is a moment in time ... we love what we've seen.'
