'People want to pit us against each other': X Factor's Mel B downplays predicted clash with fellow judge Iggy Azalea

She was revealed as the secret 'underdog' judge on X Factor Australia on Tuesday, joining existing judges Guy Sebastian, Adam Lambert and Iggy Azalea.

And just days after Guy predicted a clash between Mel B and newcomer Iggy, the former Spice Girl has downplayed any tension, insisting she's actually a fan of the rapper.

Returning three years after her last stint on the show, the 41-year-old put rumours of a potential feud with the Australian rapper to rest, during a recent interview with Who Magazine.

'I come from a group that preached girl power. It isn't fair to presume we're not going to get along just because we're both women,' the Brit reacted.

She added: 'People want to pit us against each other... but I've met Iggy before and she's lovely. I think we're going to have fun.'

Mel shocked the show's existing judges when she appeared via video and vowed to win, leaving Guy feeling the pressure with his former co-star back on the show.

He told fellow judges Iggy and Adam: 'She got the title of Scary Spice for a reason!'

'I know how competitive she is,' Guy added, having worked with Mel before on a previous season of The X Factor Australia.

'I wouldn't mess with her,' he advised the others.

Mel B appeared in the video, along with The X Factor's Simon Cowell, who introduced her and told the judging trio he likes to 'shake things up.'

The British beauty laughed as she said, 'I'm back!'

'And guess what? I've got my own category called the Underdogs. In this three-Seat Challenge, every brilliant singer you can't fit in I am gonna grab.'

'One slip up, one mistake and they're mine,' she said.

She added Guy will be 'left with egg on your face.'

Guy remarked with a laugh: 'I thought we got rid of her for good.'

The original judges had to narrow down their teams to the Top Three in the three-seat challenge while Mel will be able to take some of their cast-offs.

It made Iggy, Guy and Adam nervous as they second guessed their choices, worried they could send home someone good, who Mel would mentor into a winner.

During the episode, Adam was revealed to be mentoring the Under 22s category, Guy had the Over 22s and Iggy was left with The Groups.

In recent weeks, there have been rumours Mel would be the mystery 'underdog' judge and return to Channel Seven for the series, three years after her last project with the network.

In August, the former Spice Girl was said to be joining as the fourth member of the coaching cast due to her close connection to series creator Simon Cowell, now appearing on the UK version of the show as of this year.

'Mel is a real favourite with Simon. He loves her straight-talking attitude,' an anonymous insider told The Sun

Mel's new gig on the show comes just three years after her ugly split with X-Factor broadcaster Channel 7.

The channel successfully sued the 41-year-old for breach of contract in 2013 to block her joining Australia's Got Talent on rival network, Channel 9.
