Reese Witherspoon took to Instagram on Wednesday to wish her older brother a happy birthday.

The 40-year-old actress posted a throwback photo of herself with her arm around her sibling John.

'Aren't big brothers the best!? #HBD to this guy who has the biggest smile. Thanks for being by my side all these years I love you!,' Reese wrote in the caption.

John was beaming in the photo while clad in a tuxedo and sitting with his sister.

Reese added in the caption that John 'also makes the BEST ribs in Nashville'.

The actress was born in New Orleans and raised in a suburb of Nashville.

John has been a real estate agent in Nashville while his sister pursues her acting career and raises her family in Los Angeles.

The Oscar-winning actress also shared a photo of John and herself on Instagram in November 2014.

They both smiled while sitting next to each other in a Tennessee restaurant.

'Love seeing my brother. He shares my love for doughnuts and that's how I know we are related,' Reese wrote in the caption.

Reese has been married since 2011 to talent agent Jim Toth and they have four-year-old son Tennessee together.

The Walk The Line star also has a 17-year-old daughter Ava and 12-year-old son Deacon from her first marriage to Ryan Phillippe.

Reese has lent her voice to the upcoming animated musical comedy Sing.

The film also featuring the voices of Matthew McConaughey, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson and Nick Kroll is due out in theaters on December 21.
