Burn! Jeopardy host Alex Trebek tells contestant who loves nerdcore hip-hop that the music is for 'losers'

A Maryland librarian has gone viral after appearing on Jeopardy and having host Alex Trebek say that her favorite type of music is for 'losers'.

Susan Cole, a legislative librarian from Bowie, appeared on the game show on Wednesday and explained to Trebek about nerdcore hip-hop music.

'It's people who identify as nerdy, rapping about the things they love. Video games, science-fiction, having a hard time meeting romantic partners. It's really catchy and fun,' she said.

Trebek was then quick to deadpan: 'Losers, in other words.'

Cole laughed at Trebek's comment, as did the audience, however Twitter soon erupted with viewer complaints, with many calling out the host for his coldness.

'Man Trebek callin that cute little lady nerd a loser was colllllddddd!' one viewer, Stephanie Poole, posted.

Another wrote:  'The contestants on Jeopardy are so nerdy tonight Alex Trebek literally just called one of them a loser to her face'

However, the supposed nerd, Ms Cole, ended up winning the competition, racking up $20,600. She will return for another round on Thursday night. 

Some fans showed support for Cole on social media.

Some nerdcore performers were also not happy with Trebek's comment, like MC Chris, who is currently on tour and whose latest album peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard comedy charts this week.  

'Nerdcore is a genre that has been around for at least 15 years,' he said in a statement to Billboard.

'It's a small corner of the hip-hop world but it's a real and true respite to hundreds of thousands of people that are tired of being called losers, and would rather celebrate their nerdiness instead of trying to conform to society's mandates.'

Mega Ran, who is currently on tour with MC Chris and the like-minded MC Lars, also hit back at Trebek. 

'Alex Trebeck, you lost a lot of respect/ I gotta check you off the rip for coming out of your neck', the MC rhymed in a clip he posted to his Twitter.

'Nobody likes a know-it-all, condescending blow-hard', the rapper continues. 'But Susan got the last laugh, 20 grand cash and you're good at all my shows, you don't even have to ask.'
