And following Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber's separation last month, insiders have revealed what drove the seemingly unbreakable couple apart.

'They've been on shaky ground for years,' a source close to the pair told OK! this week.

The insider also claimed that prior to false rumours about Liev enjoying extramarital relations with the family nanny had 'eaten away at Naomi for years.'

The claims are at odds with the decidedly amicable tone of Naomi and Liev's recent public statement confirming their split. 

On September 28, the pair announced they had ended their 11-year union, maintaining that they would remain on friendly terms for the sake of their two sons, Alexander, nine, and Samuel, seven.

'Over the past few months we've come to the conclusion that the best way forward for us as a family is to separate as a couple,' the statement read.
