  • Tie Summary

Argentina and Japan face off for the eighth time in the 2014 World Group II first round. Argentina host the meeting and will be looking to level the head-to-head scoreline, with Japan currently leading 4-3. Japan won their last meeting 4-0 back in 2011.

Argentina scored an impressive upset victory when they defeated Great Britain 3-1 on the clay of Parque Roca in Buenos Aires in their World Group II play-off. Paula Ormaechea was their top performer as she won both of her singles rubbers, including defeating world No. 38 Laura Robson.

Japan were soundly beaten 4-0 by Spain in their World Group play-off and were relegated to World Group II as a result. The Japanese team struggled on the clay in Barcelona and will be hoping to cope better in Argentina.
