Andy Murray has confirmed he will miss next week's French Open because of a niggly wrist injury. The British No1 has had his wrist in a cast since straining it during last week's Hamburg Masters.
Murray, who announced the news on his personal website, is now aiming to be fit for the forthcoming grass court season.
"Hey guys how you doing?" wrote Murray. "Well - saw the doctor yesterday and as I expected I'm going to have to withdraw from the French Open, but good news is I got the cast off and I'll start physio treatment tomorrow and take it day by day to see how it feels and reacts.
"Not going to make any decisions on the grass yet. I'm going to see the doctor in a week to see how it feels and how much the inflammation has settled. One real positive from the injury is that I can get in the gym six days a week and work on my cardio and my leg strength!! Hope all is good, speak to u soon."
Meanwhile there was further bad news for Murray today as he slipped out of the world's top 10. Murray's recent injury contributed to him slipping a place to 11th, with Germany's Tommy Haas, the man he leap-frogged in April, reclaiming 10th spot.
