'Even your parents don't like you!': Colin Kaepernick receives a torrent of abuse - and a thrown BOTTLE - from effigy-wielding Bills fans as he starts his first game since beginning national anthem protests

  • Kaepernick came under fire during his first start of the season Sunday
  • Buffalo Bills fans were heard booing the 49er as he stepped onto the field
  • Anti-Kaepernick merchandise was also on sale during the pre-game
  • And pre-gaming Bills fans tackled an effigy of Kaepernick outside
  • One shouted 'Tackle the Muslim!' as a woman leaped on the dummy
  • Kaepernick was baptized a Lutheran as a child and has Bible verse tattoos

Colin Kaepernick's first start of the season for the 49ers was accompanied by abuse, mockery and a thrown bottle from fans angry at his national anthem protests.

He walked onto the field to a cacophany of boos and jeers, with one person even shouting 'Your parents didn't even like you' - possibly a reference to Kaepernick's birth mother, who is white, objecting to his protests against state-on-black violence.

And one fan was escorted out for throwing a bottle at the beleaguered star during the game, the NY Daily News reported.

A tailgating session by Bills fans also saw a crude effigy of Kaepernick being set up for people to attack, to cries of 'Tackle the Muslim!' according to NY Post.

Kaepernick, who was born a Lutheran and has Bible verse tattoos, has come under fire since August, when he first refused to stand for the national anthem before a game.

He has since said that he will refuse to stand for the anthem until '(the American flag) represents what it’s supposed to represent' - equality and protection for all, regardless of color.

But that hasn't gone down with many fans, and Bills supporters at Sunday's head-to-head - Kaepernick's first starting game this season - let him know it.

'You suck!' shouted one person from the stands as Kaepernick stepped onto the field, pointedly looking straight ahead.

Another Bills fan was seen in the stands with a sign reading 'Bills fans - proud Americans - We respect our flag + anthem.' Another held a sign saying 'Disrespect Colon' - with an emphasis on the second 'O.'

And the stands chanted 'USA! USA!' before the national anthem began - at which point Kaepernick resumed his now infamous kneeling position.

Things were equally charged outside. As well as the aforementioned effigy-tackling spotted by a reporter for TheMMQ.com, T-shirts were being also sold in the parking lot featured a photo of Kaepernick with a gun target on him.

'WANTED,' text on the shirt read, 'NOTORIOUS DISGRACE to America.'

And beer holders were on sale featuring a crude drawing of Kaepernick - named 'KaeperD**k' - on the bench with the text 'Stand up & shut up.'

However, there was some light for the beleaguered player; a group of various races with a banner reading 'Bills Fans for Black Lives' also held up signs reading 'Protest is Patriotic' and 'Kneel for Justice!'

This was the first game that Kaepernick started this season. He took the place of quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who was demoted after a tough 1-4 start to the 49ers' season.
