Vanilla Ice-d! 90s rapper Robert Van Winkle's marriage looks over as 'wife files for divorce after 16 years'

It is a marriage that lasted far longer than his musical heyday.

But Vanilla Ice's 16 year union to his wife looks over after it emerged she has filed for divorce.

The icon of hip hop, whose real name is Robert Van Winkle, had previously been arrested twice on domestic battery charges, most recently in 2008.

According to TMZ his wife Laura filed divorce papers in in Florida on Tuesday.

But it seems the move will not come as a shock to the 48-year-old MC, who now performs on the nostagia circuit, as sources said the have been separated for a few years.

The Ice Ice Baby star, who was the first rapper to top the Billboard charts back in  1990, has two daughters with his spouse.

Their eldest child is Dusti Rain, 18, and their youngest is 16-year-old KeeLee Breeze.

It lasted longer than his heyday: The couple tied the knot in 1997, after his peak had passed

Their breakup comes despite the fact they held firm after Van Winkle was arrested for domestic battery in both 2001 and 2008.

In the first incident, which occured in Davie, Florida, he admitted to pulling hair from Laura's head to prevent her from jumping out of his truck's window during an argument.

He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was sentenced to probation and ordered to attend family therapy sessions.

In 2008 he was arrested in Palm Beach County, Florida for allegedly kicking and hitting his wife.

However she later said he had only pushed her, while in court a neighbor said it was merely a verbal argument. The case was later dropped.
