The coldest inhabited place on  Earth is a small village in the Siberian tundra called Oymyakon where temperatures have been recorded as low as -90 degrees Fahrenheit. Average winter temperatures hang around -58 degrees Fahrenheit in Oymyakon and only about 500 people brave the cold to call the town home. Photographer Amos Chapple, of New Zealand, took a two day trip to the Russian village and quickly learned just how painful the plunging temperatures can be. Chapple traveled from Yakutsk, the world's coldest major city, to Oymyakon, the world's coldest inhabited area.He hoped to document the residents in the small town's lives as they avoided frostbite and blistering cold.

Iman Ahmad Abdulati (left, now, right, as a child), 36, from Egypt, is thought to be the fattest woman alive. She weighs half a tonne, hasn't left her home in 25 years and relies on her mother and sister to dress, clean and feed her. Physicians have described Iman's condition as a 'disruption of the glands', meaning her body stores and retains more water than it should.

NEW Jill Stanforth and her partner Gareth Desouky who run a salon, have been issued four tickets outside their home by Norwich Council after lines were painted, they claim, without warning. Transport for Norwich, which painted the lines, said all those affected were warned and given information about alternative parking locations. An animal lover has certainly shown that this cat is her precious - after turning him from Gollum into a true king. The two-year-old cat, Smeagol, was named for his likeness to the Lord of the Rings character after he was found emaciated and bloodied on a Belize highway. But rescuer Melissa, who did not wish to give her surname, nursed him back to full health and transformed him into a princely pet.

Armed officers have surrounded the property in Northolt, northwest London, after being called to the address in the early hours of Friday. It is not known what is inside the property but police are treating seriously reports that the items could be dangerous, including quantities of petrol and combustible material. Some 80 residents have been evacuated from nearby homes and a police cordon remains in place 200m around the house.

Riders are herding 750 bison on Utah's Antelope Island in an annual roundup of one of the country's largest and oldest public herds. Utah State Parks workers have moved the animals across the island so the bison can be weighed, tagged and given health checkups. Excess animals are typically sold to make sure the available food can support the population. This year marks the 30th annual roundup on the island - named for its native pronghorn antelope - on the Great Salt Lake, about 50 miles north of Salt Lake City.

The veteran singer, 76, said he was not sure if would be able to sing again following the death of Linda, known also as Lady Melinda Rose Woodward, in April. Sir Tom was on tour when he discovered the devastating news that Linda had lung cancer and that it was terminal. A Japanese man has had an extreme reaction after trying Vegemite for the first time, eating a large spoonful of the dark condiment mixed with cooked rice. Woepi, who is currently on holiday in Australia, describes how he wants to try Vegemite because he sees so many Australians eating it. He sniffs the inside of a jar, before he mixes a large spoon of Vegemite with rice. His reaction to the taste is instant, he screw up his face, grimaces and eventually looks like he's going to throw up.
