It's on the way! Sony confirms Kesha is working on a new album and will release new music 'soon' despite legal battle with Dr Luke
Sony Music announced on Friday that new music is on the way from pop star Kesha.
'We hope to share exciting new music with Kesha’s fans soon,' the company told Buzzfeed News.
Declining to pin down an exact date, they noted: 'Creating a new album takes time, and everyone’s goal is to deliver a high quality album consistent with Kesha’s past releases.'
In the offing: Declining to give a date, Sony Music have told Buzzfeed News that 'We hope to share exciting new music with Kesha's fans soon'
Though her last single, True Colours (with Zedd), dropped this April, the last full LP she released was Warrior in December 2012. Her last EP, Deconstructed, came out the following February.
In spite of her legal efforts to extricate herself from her recording contract with Sony's Kemosabe Records, the 29-year-old's currently stuck with the label.
Kesha's lawyer Daniel Petrocelli has revealed she's striving to polish off the terms of the contract, which mandates three more albums. In August, he'd told Buzzfeed News the Tik Tok hitmaker had 'delivered 28 new songs to the record label.'
'Kesha has been trying for six months to record and release new music,' he said to Buzzfeed for the article they ran this Friday. 'Only in the last month, after our last court hearing, has any progress been made, but it is hardly enough.'
A long time coming: The 29-year-old's last LP, Warrior, was released December 2012, and her most recent EP, Deconstructed, came out the following February
Noting that his client 'still has received no commitments on promotion, songs, or even a release date,' he added: 'We hope things turn around fast. Meanwhile, Kesha intends to continue participating in the creative process in the hopes she can meaningfully return to work.'
Since October 2014, the We R Who We R singer's been enmeshed in a protracted judicial conflict with Kemosabe's founder, record producer Dr Luke (Lukasz Gottwald.)
In a civil suit in California, she claimed that among other abuse he'd once raped her, according to the New York Times. He retaliated by suing her and her mother Pebe Sebert in New York for defamation and breach of contract.
Embattled: Her legal struggle to leave her contract with Sony's Kemosabe Records has failed, despite her claims that Kemosabe founder Dr Luke drugged and raped her; she's pictured leaving the New York State Supreme Court this February
Kesha's attempt to get a preliminary injunction against Dr Luke and Sony Music failed this February. In an appeal, her legal team insisted her having to work for Sony was comparable to 'slavery.'
In April, though, a judge at the New York State Supreme Court dismissed Kesha's counterclaims against Dr Luke for employment discrimination, gender-based hate crime and infliction of emotional distress.
Sony Music have furnished her with a list of producers she can collaborate with other than Dr Luke, who's denied Kesha's accusations of wrongdoing.
Before the storm: The two have been striving against each other in the courts since October 2014; they're pictured here in 2012
