Thirteen people have died after a tour bus collided with a semi-truck on a California freeway. And at least 21 bus passengers have been taken to Palm Springs area hospitals, the. Several are in critical condition. The crash happened at around 5.20am on Sunday along I-10 near Indian Canyon Drive in Desert Hot Springs. Firefighters used ladders to pull the victims out of the bus' windows. The bus smashed into the trailer of the truck, and its driver was unhurt. The tour bus is owned by Los Angeles-based tour company USA Holiday and was being driven by one of its owners. It was carrying around 30 people and may have been coming from the Red Earth Casino in Thermal, the Highway Patrol said

Police have arrested two teenage girls accused of attacking a frail man in front of his home in Syracuse, New York. It appeared to begin after the man told the teens to get off his lawn. They responded by punching the man several times in the face. As he gave chase, he ended up tripping and falling face first onto the road. The girls, aged 14 and 15 attend Corcoran High School in the city.

The coldest inhabited place on  Earth is a small village in the Siberian tundra called Oymyakon where temperatures have been recorded as low as -90 degrees Fahrenheit. Average winter temperatures hang around -58 degrees Fahrenheit in Oymyakon and only about 500 people brave the cold to call the town home. Photographer Amos Chapple, of New Zealand, took a two day trip to the Russian village and quickly learned just how painful the plunging temperatures can be. Chapple traveled from Yakutsk, the world's coldest major city, to Oymyakon, the world's coldest inhabited area.He hoped to document the residents in the small town's lives as they avoided frostbite and blistering cold.

Brother and sister Daveon and Tatiyana Coates (pictured) were shot dead while inside their Georgia home during a deadly home invasion early Saturday. The siblings were home with several other children, aged between six and 15, when the incident took place around 5am. Daveon was one of the oldest children in the home at the time when an unknown number of people entered the home on Libby Lane before later escaping. The other children inside at the time were not harmed. It appears two families live in the house located in Jonesboro but no parents were there at the time of the shootings because they were reportedly out for the night. A motive is still not clear in the shooting and authorities said said there are no suspects at this time, but police are investigating several leads. Police are also investigating whether anything was stolen from the home.

An 86-year-old grandmother from New Jersey, Millie Taylor-Morrison, got married earlier this month in a self-designed purple dress (pictured left and right). Huge boulders blocking a Mono County, California, road were blown up in dramatic fashion - with the explosions captured on camera. Caltrans District 9 posted a video on its Facebook page Wednesday which showed the incredible blasts on the roadway. Approximately ten boulders fell last weekend on State Route 120  and were blocking traffic. The rocks were so large, that explosives were needed to remove them.

Adrian Justin Sanchez faces a felony charge of child abandonment after he took his daughter Acelynn to the Ogden Weber Applied Technology College around 5am. A security guard found her alone and crying at 7.30am, when temperatures were near 39 F. The day before, Sanchez had allegedly wanted to bring Acelynn to a house where he did drugs. When his mother refused to let him go, he woke up Acelynn in the middle of the night and allegedly tried to break into two homes. Acelynn's mother is now seeking a protective order.

Riders are herding 750 bison on Utah's Antelope Island in an annual roundup of one of the country's largest and oldest public herds. Utah State Parks workers have moved the animals across the island so the bison can be weighed, tagged and given health checkups. Excess animals are typically sold to make sure the available food can support the population. This year marks the 30th annual roundup on the island - named for its native pronghorn antelope - on the Great Salt Lake, about 50 miles north of Salt Lake City.

Tea the Afghan hound is a decorated Australian show dog who gained a huge online following for her regal looks and graceful poise when a photo of her (left) was shared more than 1 million times on social media. She retired in August but still does a little work as an animal actor lending her image to pet food and perfume brands. An adorable and rare Golden Lion Tamarin monkey has been born at Adelaide zoo. The baby (inset) is the seventh offspring for the zoo's adult pair, mother Aurora (pictured right in main) and father Rio. The infant is also a welcomed addition to the zoo's international breeding program.
