Television heroines: According to Variety, every episode of season two of Jessica Jones will be directed by women, producer Melissa Rosenberg has announced
Melissa explained that at first she had only intended to up the number of female directors working on the 13 episode second season.
She added Marvel was also happy to achieve the goal as well.
The producer, who has written Twilight and episodes of Dexter, explained that they had initially wanted to first hire women before contracting male directors.
That changed when someone suggested booking only women to direct all 13 episodes of the second season - a concept she embraced.

Three out of the nine directors who worked on season one of Jessica Jones were female.
S.J. Clarkson, Uta Briesewitz, and Rosemary Rodriguez were the three women to have each directed a single episode of the action series.
The second season of Jessica Jones isn't set to premiere on the streaming service until at least 2018, and Melissa told Variety that scripts were nearing completion and production would begin in 2017.
Jessica Jones stars actress Krysten Ritter, Rachael Taylor, and Mike Colter, whose character Luke Cage also has his very own Netflix series.

The show is about Jessica, a former superhero, who becomes a private investigator.
Aside from creating the show, Melissa has also served as executive producer and writer for Jessica Jones.
The multi-talented producer spoke about some of the challenges she faced while filming season one.

'I can't do everything,' she told The Hollywood Reporter while speaking of a lesson learned from working on the first season.
'As much as I tried, it's not sustainable. Delegating is essential. And Krysten can't do everything. Writing a scene or two in an episode without her in it is important. She was working eight days a week, and that's not sustainable either. But the show is called Jessica Jones.
'She's the center of the show. So she and I had to learn to find a balance with our lives and our storytelling that is sustainable.'
