"We began by drawing observations and sketches based on the premise that Behemoth was an animal in the wild. The behemoth is a good swimmer, and is active in the water. It mainly feeds on large animals near the shore, but it can also feed on large fish. It uses its caudal fin to swim. The dorsal fin helps to steer through water, but its main function is to dissipate heat. At the behemoth's large size, it is difficult to adjust rising body heat. It spends a lot of time in the water during the day, likely in an effort to stabilize its body temperature. When its body heat rises, its skin can take on a reddish hue, as can be seen often among agitated males when engaged in turf wars. If it decides to take on a strong opponent, it spreads its fins wide in an act of initimidation. Spreading its fins is believed to have the effect of maximizing heat dissipation. The behemoth usually maintains a body temperature of 35 degrees Celcius, but can rise up to a maximum of 80 degrees Celcius. Therefore, it has tolerance for high internal temperature, and becomes less active when its body temperature gets too low." - Tomohiro Hasegawa, art director

Some find the joints of the legs to be off-putting, so we hid them in plumage. We also hid the patch of skin around the eyes.
