March 4, 2014 – The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is holding an online contest to select a singer of the National Anthem at this year’s Opening General Session of the NFPA Conference & Expo in Las Vegas on Monday, June 9, 2014. Solo performers or established groups of up to five singers must submit their audition video through the NFPA website, www.nfpa.org/anthem or NFPA Facebook page by March 23. Finalists will be selected by a panel of judges and their videos will be posted online for public voting between March 31 – April 4, 2014.
The contest winner(s) will receive a roundtrip flight to Las Vegas, one-night hotel accommodations and full conference registration to the NFPA Conference & Expo, where they will perform the national anthem in front of over 3,000 attendees. The winner(s) will be announced on April 9. “The national anthem singer contest, while providing an opportunity for patrons to show their patriotism, will also add a fun and interactive element to the Conference & Expo that everyone can enjoy,” said Linda Bailey, division manager of Conferences & Meetings at NFPA.
