He's breaking the seed limit! Farmer turns tractor into 50mph mean machine… after giving it a Volvo turbo engine

If you were stuck behind this tractor on a country lane, you might want to think twice before trying to overtake... because it's not as slow as it seems.

Rickard Nilsson, a farmer in Sweden, has 'pimped up' his rusty red hulk of a machine by giving it a Volvo 240 turbo engine.

And with such power under the hood, why trundle along at 5mph when you can do 0-50 in a matter of seconds?

Now, a YouTube video of him tearing across fields and burning rubber on rural roads has become a smash hit, with nearly 2million views.

Answer: Fit it with a Volvo 240 turbo engine... and then call the machine 'Terror'

He calls his tractor 'Terror' - and rightly so, as it would scare any livestock it zooms past.

In the film, the crazy cropster takes off at speed from his farmhouse, with the camerman's car (fluffy dice included) in hot pursuit.

He then steers onto farmland, ploughing up the turf as he goes.

Viewers are given an up-close-and-personal experience thanks to a handy 'tractor-cam' as he churns up the mud.

Tractor

Left for dead: The tractor speeds off, leaving the car and cameraman in its wake

Daredevil Nilsson also performs several handbrake turns - an interesting addition to the standard agriculture manoeuvres required of such a machine

And for good measure, he also throws in some 360-degree spins.

So if you need something towed, sprayed or ploughed in a hurry, just dial T for Terror.

We have 9 y.o's driving mega tractors here in France at speeds which frighten me! They usually have a load of over 10 tonnes in tow! The police do nothing and the farmers concerned make up fake laws to suit! However, since the advent of the QUAD BIKE they seem to be gaining favour (farmers had bought them and escaped from having to register them as they were agricultural!). However, now that the law requires all vehicles - even police and other state vehicles - to be registered in the normal way perhaps sanity will resume!

Brilliant. I want one

Will this progress towards increasing more crop needed by the growing population?

Patrick of Belfast-The Volvo 240 turbo is a petrol engine and probably peaks out at more than twice the revs that the original diesel motor in the tractor did-twice the engine revs = twice the road speed. - Francis Barnett , Brittany France, 14/11/2012 20:41*********With the gear ratios, it doesn't quite work that way. Twice the rev's will increase groundspeed, but I doubt it would even double. Even doubled.....14 mph x 2 .......28 mph is still just over half the speed of 50 mph. The engine wuld need to be turning out almost 10,000 RPM. Bye the way, I trained as an aircraft engineer.

A 50 mph tractor? Hopefully it'll catch on.

If the cops catch him ,I bet he gets" bale"

Uping the horsepower with a turbo will make no difference to a tractor's speed unless you also change the gear ratios of the transmission (gearbox) and the final drive (differential).
