Website provides resources for National Electrical Code adoption
June 11, 2013 – The Electrical Code Coalition (ECC) today announced the launch of its new website, which aims to facilitate direct and full adoption, application and uniform enforcement of the latest edition of NFPA 70®, the National Electrical Code® (NEC®). The NEC sets the standard for safe electrical installations in homes, businesses, institutions and industry.
“As one of the founding members of the Electrical Code Coalition, NECA continues to support its mission and works to promote uncompromised adoption of the National Electrical Code in the interest of consumer safety,” said Mike Johnston, executive director of standards and safety for the National Electrical Contractors Association.
Unified codes and standards enhance electrical safety by providing consistent requirements across jurisdictions. The Coalition is committed to NEC adoption throughout the United States, to better protect consumers and those who work on electrical systems.

That’s why IAEI fully supports the direct and full adoption of the latest edition of the National Electrical Code, and its commitment to an electrical safety system that protects persons and property from potential shock and fire hazards, said David Clements, CEO and executive director of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors. “The ECC website provides the necessary tools to ensure that our new products, technologies and systems will, indeed, make our communities a safer place to live.”
Through its website, the Coalition offers a free "Adoption Support Kit," which can be used by promulgating agencies and local electrical safety advocates to support NEC adoption. Free read-only versions of the NEC and other National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes and standards can be accessed through the site. An interactive map tracks NEC adoption in all 50 states.
“Expanded use of the most current edition of the NEC is central to improving electrical safety for all which is why ESFI supports its adoption so vigorously,” said Brett Brenner, president of the Electrical Safety Foundation International. “The new resources provided on the Electrical Code Coalition website to help stakeholders take an active role in adoption or strengthen their current efforts will help move electrical safety forward.”
The Electrical Code Coalition promotes widespread adoption of the NEC. Its current members are: Edison Electric Institute (EEI), the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI), Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC), International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI), International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), National Armored Cable Manufacturers Association (NACMA), National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), National Electrical Manufacturer's Association (NEMA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and Underwriters Laboratories, Inc.
