Finish: Same as the starting point.

Distance:

Time: 15-20 minutes return.

Dogs: Must be kept on a leash at all times; not permitted in the wetland areas.

Description:

An asphalt path runs along the top of the main car park; turn right to reach the start of the Wetland Edge Walk.

The well-formed gravel path travels beside the tidal pools towards Linwood Avenue. The pools are a hot spot for wetland wading birds such as oystercatcher/tōrea, pied stilt/poaka and white-faced heron/ matuku moana. Rare but regular visitors included bar-tailed godwit/kuaka and wrybill/ngutu parore.

Turn left at the first junction to return towards the car park or continue on a few minutes to make a slightly longer loop around the duck pond beside Linwood Avenue and then back to the car park.

Other tracks in the reserve travel alongside Linwood Avenue (an additional 10 minutes one way) or to a walking access point at the end of Waterman Place (5 minutes from car park).
