June 9, 2014 – The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) announces previously elected new officers and today elected members to its Board of Directors at the 2014 NFPA Conference & Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada. The new terms, two years for officers and three years for directors, took effect upon the close of the annual meeting.
Ernest J. Grant, RN, MSN, PhD (C), FAAN of Chapel Hill, N.C. was elected as board chair. Grant previously served as first vice chair. He has been an outreach nurse clinician with the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center, UNC Hospitals for more than 23 years. Grant is a past president of the North Carolina Nurses Association. He received the B.T. Fowler Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2013 North Carolina Public Fire Educators conference.
Randolph W. Tucker of The Woodlands, Texas, was elected as first vice chair. Tucker previously served as secretary and most recently as the second vice chair. He is the associate principal leading the Fire Protection and Life Safety team for ccrd Partners and has over 30 years of fire protection engineering consulting experience, including work on projects in over 60 countries around the world. Tucker was formerly with Rolf Jensen & Associates, Inc. He has been chair of NFPA’s Smoke Management Systems Technical Committee since 2006.
Keith E. Williams, president and CEO of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL) was elected as second vice chair. Williams previously served as assistant treasurer. Previous to UL, Williams served in senior executive roles for Medtronic Inc., including president of the company’s Asia-Pacific Operations. Prior to Medtronic, he worked for General Electric holding assignments in global business management, global logistics, marketing and sales.
Amy R. Acton, executive director of the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, was elected as secretary. She is past chair of the Burn Survivors Support SIG and has served on the American Burn Association (ABA) Ethics and Rehabilitation committees and currently serves on the ABA Prevention Committee. She is co-chair of the joint committee on aftercare and reintegration of the Phoenix Society and ABA.
William J. McCammon, executive director of East Bay Regional Communications System Authority, was elected treasurer. McCammon has a broad range of fire service experience developing regional fire service response systems including regional dispatch, communications systems, and facilities master plans. He has over 30 years of experience in the fire service including more than 14 years as a fire chief. He served as president of the California Fire Chiefs Association and president of the Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Association.
New members elected to the board include Russell B. Leavitt of Tempe, Arizona, and Eric R. Rosenbaum of Baltimore, Maryland.
Leavitt is executive chairman and board member at Telgian Corporation, an international fire protection and life safety services organization. Most recently, he was Telgian’s Chief Executive Officer, serving previously as the managing member of Fire Materials Group, LLC. Leavitt also co-founded the Fire Design Group, which specialized in providing fire protection design documents for architects, developers and contractors. He has served in numerous leadership positions for NFPA standards development including NFPA 25 Technical Committee and the Automatic Sprinklers Standards. He is an expert in fire sprinkler systems and a regular instructor and speaker for numerous organizations including the American Fire Sprinkler Association.
Rosenbaum is vice president at Hughes Associates, Inc., a consulting engineering firm providing specialized consulting services including fire protection, life safety and risk analysis. He is a registered fire protection engineer and a fellow of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. As a member of NFPA, he chaired the Life Safety Code® Technical Committee on Fire Protection Features for nine years. He is the long-term care industry’s representative on the NFPA Technical Committee on Health Care Occupancies and Technical Correlating Committee of the NFPA Life Safety Code®. Rosenbaum is also a member of the Technical Committee for Board and Care Facilities (Assisted Living Facilities) and Means of Egress of the NFPA Life Safety Code®, which develop the requirements for assisted living facilities.
In addition, current board members Julie Rochman and Kwame Cooper were re-elected to serve for a second term.
