Foundation honors papers with Mengel and Carey awards 

Lance Rütimann was honored with the Ronald K. Mengel Award for outstanding detection paper, and Tom Multer and Christina F. Francis won the William M. Carey Award for best suppression paper, the Fire Protection Research Foundation has announced.

The winning papers were selected by participants at the Research Foundation’s 2014 Suppression, Detection and Signaling Research and Applications Symposium.

Rütimann, an industry affairs senior manager at Siemens Building Technologies in Switzerland, won for his paper, “Reducing False Alarms – A Case Study of Selected European Countries.”

Multer and Francis won for their paper, “Storage Protection Using Horizontal Barriers and Large K-Factor, Extended Coverage In-Rack Sprinklers.” Francis serves as a fire protection engineer for Procter & Gamble, while Multer responsible for new product development and the technical services group at Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Company, Inc.
