NFPA, IAFC and NVFC launch 2014 Safety and Health Week Quiz Sweepstakes

200 winners will receive a challenge coin

Safety and Health WeekMay 5, 2014 – The “Fire Service Safety & Health Quiz” Sweepstakes is a test worth taking. Offered as part of the 2014 International Fire/EMS Safety and Health Week and hosted by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in coordination with the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) and the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), the interactive online quiz reinforces the training messages behind this year’s theme, “Train Like You Fight”.

The IAFC and NVFC are co-sponsors of the 2014 International Fire/EMS and Health Week, June 15-21. The quiz will be available online May 5 through June 12 at www.nfpa.org/fireservicequiz, and includes 15 questions on training and first responder health and safety.

Career firefighters, volunteer firefighters and other fire department employees and fire service members are invited to participate. Everyone who completes the quiz will be automatically entered into a sweepstakes; 200 randomly selected participants will win a specially designed challenge coin commemorating this year’s Safety and Health Week.

The winners will be officially announced on Monday, June 16, during a Safety and Health Week webinar, and their names posted on NFPA’s website.

“Last year’s quiz was a great success, and effectively engaged fire departments and members of the fire service in training awareness and education,” said Ken Willette, NFPA’s division manager of Public Fire Protection and a former fire chief. “This year, we hope even more firefighters and fire service members participate, and continue to learn about the importance of proper fireground training.”

Each year, International Fire/EMS Safety and Health Week encourages fire departments to focus on safety and health training and education. For 2014, “Train Like You Fight” addresses safety on the training ground and reduction of training-related injuries and deaths, along with the importance of adequate training to prepare for safe fireground operations.
