January 24, 2014 – The 2014 NFPA Conference & Expo will be held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nev. Monday, June 9 through Thursday, June 12, 2014. The conference, presented by the ROC-NFPA, LLC, typically draws an audience of more than 4,500 professionals interested in learning about the latest code changes, research, and technologies related to fire protection, security, life safety and electrical safety. NFPA Conference & Expo is the largest event of its kind tailored to the fire and life safety community.

The annual conference features more than 100 education sessions, many of which have continuing education units available, hands-on training, numerous networking opportunities, and hundreds of product displays featuring the industry's leading suppliers. New this year are two conference tracks – Health Care, in recognition of the changing health care landscape and the challenges facing those who design, develop, and maintain health care facilities; and Sustainability, addressing a broad range of topics related to green building, alternative energy sources, and associated processes and technologies. In 2013, NFPA C&E was named one of the fastest growing trade shows by “Trade Show Executive Magazine.”

The general session from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, June 9 will feature American author and historian Michael Beschloss. Beschloss, who Newsweek called “the nation’s leading Presidential historian,” has written nine books. His latest, "Presidential Courage:  Brave Leaders and How They Changed America, 1789-1989," details the crucial moments in American history when courageous presidents influenced the future of the country. The book was both a New York Times and Washington Post best seller. Through anecdotes, humor and stories, Beschloss gives context to both influencers of our past and the crucial events of our time.

The featured presentation on Tuesday, June 10 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. will review a case study on “The 2013 Boston Marathon:  How the Multi-Discipline, Multi-Jurisdiction Approach to Planning for the Marathon Affected the Response to, and Recovery from, the Bombings”. Kurt Schwartz, the Undersecretary for Homeland Security and Emergency Management in the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, and Director of the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, will review the local, regional and state planning process for the 2013 Boston Marathon and discuss the multi-discipline, multi-jurisdiction response to the bombings and the intense manhunt several days later that resulted in the death of one suspected terrorist and the capture of the other.  This session will highlight planning challenges, lessons learned, and best practices of the response to, and recovery from, the attack.

Registration is open. Visit the official 2014 NFPA Conference & Expo site for more info.
