U.S. - Brazil Labor Cooperation

The United States and Brazil signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in May 2012 establishing a framework to promote hemispheric collaboration on labor matters to ensure equitable economic growth, promoting employment, social protection, protecting labor rights, and strengthening social dialogue, pursuant to the Hemispheric Decent Work Agenda.

March 12, 2014: Meeting with Job Corps — Washington, DC

A delegation from Brazil's Ministry of Social Development and Fight Against Hunger and the Embassy of Brazil met with Job Corps staff and students on March 12, 2014 at the Potomac Job Corps center located in Washington, DC. The delegation had an opportunity to share information about Brazil's anti-poverty initiatives and interact with Job Corps staff and students about their residential and career training programs. The exchange included a tour of the Job Corps campus.

October 22-24, 2012: Brazil Labor Dialogue — Brasilia, Brazil

A Department of Labor (DOL) delegation met with counterparts from Brazil's Ministry of Labor and Employment from October 22-24, 2012 in Brasilia. The delegation included representatives from the Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB) and the Wage and Hour Division (WHD). The purpose of the meeting was to exchange information on the topics in the MOU which included discussions on Brazil's Decent Work initiatives, labor market data, unemployment insurance, youth employment, employment and job training services, the upcoming Olympics, and labor inspections focused on wage and hour issues, child labor, forced labor, and the port sector. Areas for future cooperation were also identified.

May 17-18, 2012: Secretary Solis and Minister Brizola Neto sign a Memorandum of Understanding — Guadalajara, Mexico

U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis and her counterpart from Brazil's Ministry of Labor and Employment, Carlos Brizola Neto, signed a MOU on Labor Cooperation in May 2012 on the margins of the G20 Labor Ministerial in Guadalajara, Mexico.
