Southern Charm's Jennifer Snowden shares first portrait of six-week-old Ascher as co-stars coo over infant born with rare brain condition

Jennifer Snowden's baby boy Ascher has finally been introduced in public six weeks after his birth.

The infant, who was born with a rare brain encephalocele, spent his first weeks quietly with his family.

But this past weekend, the Southern Charm star held a 'sip and see' - the Southern equivalent of a baby shower - where she proudly showed off her precious newborn to her reality show co-stars.

Show matriarch Patricia Altschul described Ascher as 'an absolute dream' as she shared a snap of herself holding the little boy.

Cameran Eubanks said her co-star's baby was 'gorgeous and perfect.'

'He is a miracle,' she tweeted.

Stayed strong: Jennifer and her boyfriend of 10 years Lee James opted to proceed with the pregnancy even though doctors told them early on that their baby had a neural tube defect

Early on in her pregnancy, Jennifer was told that her baby suffered from a neural tube defect, in which the channel that normally folds to create the brain and spinal cord doesn't fully close.

He was delivered by C-section on September 12 and needed specialist surgery following his birth.

The realtor, 35, described the delivery and aftermath as ‘a tumultuous first few days'. 

Ascher's dad is Jennifer's boyfriend of ten years, Lee James.

In recent months Jennifer has charted the excitement and uncertainty of her surprise pregnancy across Instagram and Twitter.

Announcing the pregnancy in April she admitted that, for both her and Lee, the news came as a 'complete surprise'.

Throughout her pregnancy Jennifer has posted pictures of the nursery that awaits Ascher at her Charleston home, the baby clothes she has bought and been given and, amid it all, asked friends and fans to pray for her child's health.  

She told the Daily Dish that she had chosen to keep her child despite his brain encephalocele.

'One thing I do know is that he has one, a future, because of my decision to keep the little guy around and I couldn't be more thrilled to meet him, no matter what mountains we will have to climb together,' she said.
