June 13, 2016 – The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) today elected new members to its Board of Directors at the 2016 NFPA Conference & Expo in Las Vegas. The three-year terms for new members took effect upon the close of the annual meeting.

New members elected to the board include Hatem Kheir, Teresa L. Deloach Reed, and Stacy N. Welch.

Kheir is the general manager of Kheir Group, a Cairo-based company that he founded in 1993 that specializes in supplying pumps, pumping services and maintenance. Spurred by his belief that global cooperation is the only approach to protecting lives, property and the environment from fire, Kheir has been a member of NFPA since 1994 and is the vice chairman of the Confederation of Fire Protection Association-International. He is also responsible for bringing NFPA codes to fire pump stations in Egypt. As one of the founders and directors of the Egyptian Fire Protection Association, he has worked with relevant authorities to apply NFPA codes and standards in Egypt and translate the documents into Arabic.

Reed is the fire chief for the Oakland, California Fire Department and responsible for providing leadership in all aspects of operations for the department. She started her career in fire safety in 1986 as a firefighter in San Jose, California. In addition to her role as fire chief, Reed currently serves on NFPA’s Emergency Responder Advisory Committee and is a board member for the American Red Cross.

Welch, a registered professional engineer, is the senior director for Fire Protection and Life Safety with Marriot International, the world’s largest lodging company. In this role, Welch oversees engineers, inspectors and life safety specialists who are responsible for the safety of over a million guests every day, in 81 different countries. She has also developed Marriot’s long-term strategy for fire protection and life safety. Welch’s experience with a multinational company aligns with NFPA’s expanding global fire and life safety outreach strategy.

Several members of the Board were re-elected to their positions or were elected to new positions on the board. Randolph W. Tucker of Tucker Consulting Associates was elected chair of the board, Keith E. Williams, president/CEO of Underwriters Laboratories is now the first vice chair, while Amy R.
