January 12, 2016 – The latest issue of NFPA Journal®, the official magazine for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), examines the advent of big batteries and the concerns that accompany this growing technology. This issue also dives into healthcare, with a special look at how the rise of home healthcare and independent living affects both those offering care and the patients themselves.
In the cover story, “Power to Spare,” NFPA Journal analyzes the growing use of big batteries, or energy storage systems, in both residential and industrial environments. The ability to store power for later use has both environmental and financial incentives. But despite the allure of energy storage systems, imperative safety questions still remain. The Journal’s in-depth cover story highlights New York City’s status as an emerging energy storage epicenter, and FDNY’s (Fire Department City of New York) recent efforts to better understand how to safely extinguish a fire involving an energy storage system.
