NFPA staff ice executive team; make donations to the ALS Association
September 2, 2014 – The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) took on the Ice Bucket Challenge today to help raise funds for the ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) Association. All eight members of the NFPA executive team took the Challenge, with staff making the ice water dumps at NFPA’s headquarters in Quincy, Mass.
Each member of the senior team made a donation to the ALS Association and, before getting iced, named other organizations to take the Challenge. NFPA staff who made a donation to the ALS Association were entered into a drawing for a chance to be one of the dumpers, and got to choose the senior team member on whom they wanted to dump the ice water.
“As the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has spread across the country, NFPA has jumped in to help raise funds for this important cause and bring together our staff for a memorable event,” said Jim Pauley, president and CEO of NFPA.
The NFPA senior team has challenged the following ten organizations to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge: American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA), The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), ASTM International, Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC), International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), International Code Council (ICC), International Fire Marshals Association (IFMA), National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM), National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA), and Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE).
Sparky the Fire Dog® was also on hand to cheer on the ice water dumpers, and support this effort to raise funds for ALS research.
