District Plans : Christchurch City Council

District plans govern how land is used and developed.

We are reviewing the current operative district plans (Christchurch City and Banks Peninsula). Replacement proposals (known as the proposed Christchurch Replacement District Plan) have been notified in stages for public submissions. These have been considered by an Independent Hearings Panel. The Panel's decisions on the proposals are sequentially released, complete an appeal process and then can be notified as operative. Once operative, they form part of the new Christchurch District Plan, which will ultimately replace all other plans for the Christchurch district. We expect the new Christchurch District Plan will be complete by the end of 2016.

Until then you need to use either the Christchurch City Plan or the Banks Peninsula District Plan as well as the proposed Christchurch Replacement District Plan and the new Christchurch District Plan. Christchurch City Plan (Operative)

This is the operative plan for Christchurch City, until it is replaced by the Christchurch District Plan. It needs to be used with the proposed Christchurch Replacement District Plan and the new Christchurch District Plan until the new plan is complete - expected to be at the end of this year.

Banks Peninsula District Plan (Operative)

This is the operative plan for Banks Peninsula, until it is replaced by the Christchurch District Plan. It needs to be used with the proposed Christchurch Replacement District Plan and the new Christchurch District Plan until the new plan is complete - expected to be at the end of this year.

Proposed Christchurch Replacement District Plan

Proposals notified so far as part of the district plan review. These proposals must be used with the Christchurch City Plan or the Banks Peninsula District Plan as well as the Christchurch District Plan until the new Christchurch District Plan is complete - expected to be at the end of this year.

New Christchurch District Plan

Decisions of the Independent Hearings Panel now notified as operative. This plan must be used with the operative plans and the proposed Christchurch Replacement District Plan until all decisions are operative - expected to be at the end of this year.
