Obese mother who gorged on peanut butter cuts the habit and loses an incredible 200lbs - after realising she was consuming 4,000 calories a DAY

A woman who described herself as a 'peanut butter addict' lost 201lb (14 stone) after the shocking realisation that she was consuming more than 4,000 calories a day.

Amy LeRoy, 29, from Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, a mother of two and retirement consultant, weighed 350lb (25 stone) at her heaviest, after living off high calorie takeaways and peanut butter snacks.

Unknown to her some of the meals she was eating on a regular basis had a very high fat content and one of her meals contained over 1,500 calories.

Amy underwent a gastric bypass in 2006 but was unable to shake bad eating habits and failed to lose weight.

Two years ago, she downloaded a calorie counting app and was shocked to learn that her daily diet exceeded 4,000 calories - double the recommended intake.

She reduced her portion sizes, started exercising and cut back her peanut butter addiction, which saw her eating large spoonfuls from the jar with other chocolate-coated snacks.

Since calorie counting earlier this year she has lost more than 201lb (14 stone), dropping to an 149lb (10st 9) naturally.

Amy said: 'At my heaviest I was easily consuming up to four thousand calories a day - which was a real shock.

'My calories were adding up because of the quantity of food I was eating, I was overeating and was consuming way too much peanut butter.

'I'd easily eat three large spoonfuls of peanut butter at a time, then I'd have snacks with lots of peanut butter in them too.

'Before I never took the time to realise what I was actually eating, since understanding the nutritional content of what's going into my body my diet's drastically changed.

'It was a new thing for me to count calories, I'd never done it before, but it worked and helped me to lose weight.

'In the past, I didn't realise that some of the fast food I was ordering had more than 1,500 calories in just one meal which seems crazy to me now.

'Now I eat around 1,500 calories a day, so knowing that I used to have that amount in just one sitting was really shocking.'

Amy started putting on weight during childhood and was so self-conscious of her size that she had to take medication to treat her social anxiety.

She said: 'Throughout school I was medicated for social anxiety, I know my weight had a lot to do with why I felt so uncomfortable in social situations.

'I had fears like not being able to fit into booths at restaurants and struggling to get through crowds because I was so big.

'Now, since losing weight I feel really confident, I can hang out with my friends and feel like I can go to more places with my children.'

Amy previously tried to lose weight with a gastric band in 2006, but after returning to bad food habits she piled back on the weight she had previously lost.

But after learning about the nutritional content in food over two years ago, she's drastically changed her diet and now consumes 1,500 calories a day.

Amy said: 'After my gastric band I lost a little weight, but I was hoping for a miracle and at the time I wasn't ready to change my diet so drastically and later had it removed due to the pain it was causing.

'Since calorie counting I set a lot of small weight loss goals, which made it easier to achieve and now try to keep 85 per cent of my diet healthy.'

The documented her progress on Instagram and supported by her followers.

Amy said: 'I started posting my progress on Instagram every week and soon I had a following who were cheering me on and encouraging me on my weight loss journey.

She says that posting her progress on Instagram helped her to become healthy, and she now has 12,7000 followers on the platform

Amy has 12,700 followers on the social media platform and hopes to inspire others on similar journeys.  

She said: 'I'm really thankful that I was finally able to lose my weight, thankfully my body allowed me to make this change.

'I try to encourage others now on Instagram and I hope my success inspires others who don't believe they can lose weight.'
