'It was almost game over': Felicity Jones reveals she 'nearly killed' Tom Hanks after crashing while filming Inferno car chase scene

She is playing a soldier fighting the Empire in a galaxy far, far away in the forthcoming Star Wars spinoff.

But Felicity Jones revealed she struggled to maneuver her way out of a car park without killing her A-list co-star Tom Hanks as they filmed Inferno in Italy.

The English actress said she 'nearly killed' the Big star when she tried to turn a corner but ended up smashing into a wall instead during a car chase scene.

Felicity, 33, told chat show host Jimmy Kimmel: 'Was my first time driving an A-list movie star and nearly killing them.

'I'm at the wheel (with) Mr Tom Hanks sitting next to me and had to come out of this parking lot as you say in America... we call it car park.

'We were coming out quite a sharp corner... Italian are streets really tiny and my character had the biggest car they could find.

'I basically bashed the entire side of the car with Tom in into the side of the wall.'

Hanks for the memories: She said the Forrest Gump star 'was cool' with the incident

Underlining how ham-fisted her maneuver was she added, 'It was almost game over, but luckily he was cool.'

And she joked that her Frank Spencer-esque driving style almost got her kicked off the film.

She said: 'They did say, "job over, You're going back to England."'

Inferno, the latest in the popular Da Vinci Code saga,  is tipped to top the box office in the US when it is released on Friday.

But it is her forthcoming turn as Jyn Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story that has launched her to a new level of prominence.

Felicity said she feels like she is slowly becoming indoctrinated into the ways of the hit movie series' legion of geek fans.

She revealed: 'I was recently sent a box of toy laser guns, which I have to say is the most fun ever.

They are amazing. They are incredible when you're at home and don't have much to do,  and can go about as I do with my boyfriend and shoot each other.'

'I'm joining the nerd community.'

The actress also had a special surprise up her sleeve for the show's host, producing a Lego figure of her character from a jewellery box hidden in her seat.

Happy to be here: Felicity looked cheerful as she headed into the Hollywood studio

Uncanny resemblance: It is hard to tell the toy figure apart from Felicity in Rogue One
