'Did you buy yourself a present and a cake too?' Social media baffled as Hillary wishes happy birthday to HERSELF in bizarre and tacky tweet declaring she will be president too

Perhaps worried she wasn't going to receive many good wishes from anywhere else, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton decided to wish herself a happy birthday, while proclaiming she would be the first woman president.

'Happy birthday to this future president,' read a tweet posted at 9 a.m. this morning. 

The reaction on social media was swift with people questioning whether Secretary Clinton realized that by tweeting from her account she was effectively congratulating herself. 

Others called her 'weird', while one follower demanded she fire the campaign's social media manager for such a basic faux pas.

The reaction against Hillary Clinton's birthday wish tweet was swift with some gentle mocking

Clinton's tweet led to birthday wishes from supporters although her self-addressed tweet led opened the door for some some gentle teasing with users making fun of the post's self-congratulatory tone.

'@HillaryClinton Did you just wish a happy birthday to yourself? Weirdo lol,' one user tweeted.

'You're so weird, are you telling yourself happy birthday?' asked Twitter user dubbed Political Cow.

Plenty of Twitter users were unforgiving when it came to the Hillary Clinton's birthday  text

'Whomever is managing your social media account needs to be fired immediately. No one wishes themselves a happy birthday,' said another Twitter user with some sage advice.

'Shouldn't this have come from one of the campaign accounts?' asked another potential voter, while another summed the whole episode up pointedly stating: 'The saddest birthday tweet comes from yourself.'

It wasn't long before daughter, Chelsea, told her mom how proud she was to be her daughter

Daughter Chelsea wasn't far behind with her good wishes for her mother writing: 'Happy Birthday Mom! I hope that one day Charlotte & Aidan are as proud to be my children as I am to be your daughter.' 

Husband Bill, who is currently in North Carolina attempting to persuade voters to turn our for his wife in two weeks time wrote: 'Happy Birthday Hillary! In awe of you today and every day.'Clinton's confidence in her own campaign is clearly growing as she dubbed herself a 'future president'. 

Clinton, who turned 69 on Wednesday show the former secretary of state comfortably ahead over GOP nominee Donald Trump in both national and battleground-state polls, with the election 13 days away.

Clinton is continuing to campaign on her birthday with a stop in Florida Wednesday afternoon.
