Video footage has captured the terrifying moment two men were involved in a high-speed car crash which was streamed live on the internet.

The passenger in the convertible sports car streamed the horrific incident live on Periscope as he and the driver travelled along the Istanbul-Şile highway in Turkey.

The pair can be heard laughing and listening to loud music, as the camera pans over the speedometer showing the car is travelling at 96mph - before it smashes into the back of another vehicle.

The phone then continued to record for some 40 minutes before being found by a member of the emergency services at the scene.

In the footage, shot by the passenger as he enjoys a cigarette, he and his driver can be seen in the convertible as they listen to loud music.

The camera pans round to show the road in front of them and a yellow truck just ahead of their vehicle.

According to Turkish media, the passenger urges his driver to slow down before their sports car ploughs into the back of the truck.

To the horror of viewers, the crash was streamed live - and the phone then continued to record for some 40 minutes before being found by a member of the emergency services at the scene

The screen then goes black but the broadcast continues for 40 minutes, recording the arrival of the emergency services and bystanders’ attempts to help those injured in the crash.

Footage then shows the horrific aftermath of the crash and the crushed sports car.

According to local media reports, one of the men injured in the incident on July 25 was famous Turkish actor Mustafa Alabora, 70, who is understood to be in intensive care in Kozyatağı hospital, Istanbul.
