In mid-January Chaz Bono appeared to be channelling Elvis Presley with a quiff and 1950s style sideburns.

On Wednesday he toned down the look with a new, more classic hairstyle.

Cher's daughter-cum-transgender son was spotted leaving The Proper Barbershop, which proudly boasts it only caters for men, in the Beverly Grove neighbourhood of Los Angeles.

The 44-year-old wore a plum-coloured v-neck sweater with blue jeans and heavy boots.

He carried what looked like a bottle of orange as he walked back to the car, hailing a dude with a long beard and thick moustache sitting outside the barbershop as he left.

Chaz's acting ambitions got a big boost last month when he revealed he had won a plum role in a movie.

The low-budget thriller, Dirty, is due for release in the second half of 2014.

Playing Jerry the hoarder he stars alongside Ryan Meriman from the Pretty Little Liars TV series and former Baywatch babe Alexandra Paul.

'2014 off to awesome start,' Chaz tweeted. 'Just got cast in the amazing indie film Dirty. Playing Jerry the hoarder, one beautifully twisted, crazy character.'

The Proper Barbershop was founded by Vinnie Morey and Trent Magnano.

Their website says: 'We set out to create the last true safe house for a man to come and enjoy being a man.

'So say what you feel and let the good times roll at your neighborhood barbershop, the Proper Barbershop! Men young to ancient are all welcome here!'
