The best of Vine: From Leonardo DiCaprio's hilarious reaction to Lady Gaga to the sound of the bomb in the Stade de France, social media mourns after Twitter axes the video sharing app

From the blast heard in the Stade de France to the hilarious exploits of children, Vine has captured some momentous moments since its launch in 2012.

And as Twitter announced that it will be shutting down the site, we take a look back at some of the videos of six seconds or less that gripped the world.

With more than 715million loops, the six-second video revealing the sound of the blast in Paris as France played Germany in November is the most watched ever.

Norwegian football fan Terje Haavin posted the video on November 13 2015, the day when more than 100 people died in co-ordinated terror attacks across the city.

It is by far the most shocking moment in the ten most-watched videos in a list compiled by the micro-blogging site for the first time, at the beginning of this year.

Other moments include Leonardo DiCaprio's hilarious reaction as Lady Gaga brushes past him on her way to collect a gong at the Golden Globes.

In Britain, politicians have found themselves at the butt of the joke in videos viewed by millions, with momentous moments involving Ed Miliband and Michael Gove.

With nearly 11million views, the video posted in October 2013, was captioned: 'Michael Gove's human suit malfunctioned at conference today'.

Lessons in life: Child learns how to look happy when you receive a gift you don't like

At some point in life, we will all have had to pull a fake smile and look overjoyed when opening a gift we hate in front of a proud friend or relative.

And this three-year-old boy had an early start, filmed opening an avocado - and looking absolutely thrilled about it as his uncle Jeff Simmons watches on.

The video has looped 115million times since it was posted in July last year.

Don't try this at home: Bedroom stunt almost goes horribly wrong

A boy standing on the bed next to an open door, this video has all the hallmarks of an elaborate brotherly household stunt from the outset.

But as another young man rushes through the door with a spacehopper and hits the small boy waiting on the bed, he gets a little more impact than expected.

The young boy goes flying through the air and narrowly misses hitting the back wall with his head, instead landing on a pile of cushions that break his landing.

Riding the wave: Child is knocked over by rotating obstacle and ends up balancing on top of it

A children's day in Indianapolis would usually have passed without major fanfare, but it got worldwide attention thanks to this Vine that has looped nearly 95million times.

A young boy is seen stepping onto a platform as the foam pole spins around the circular obstacle course.

When he is hit, rather than simply knocking him off, he ends up balanced on top of it as it then takes out all the other children on the course.
