Lisbon Airport was forced to close for several hours after a passenger plane made a hard landing that 'crushed' its landing gear and left debris scattered across the runway. Photographs from the scene showed the front landing gear touching the tarmac (main) with the wheels missing (inset). The incident, on October 22, reportedly saw the TAP operated aircraft bouncing twice on the runway before finally coming to a stop. There were 20 passengers and four crew on board at the time and all were said to have disembarked the flight without injury.

Every day, from the late 1880s to the early 1900s, the London Necropolis Railway (right) ferried corpses from a purpose-built station near Waterloo (left) directly to the Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey (inset, pictured today). It was developed in 1854 in response to both a recent cholera epidemic and chronic overcrowding in London cemeteries at the time, and the service was designed to transport not just the dead, but their relatives and funeral-goers too.

Do you dread the thought of braving the elements in a flimsy tent? Well, appealing to the glamping crowd, design firm Duffy London has launched a range of flat-packed mobile shelters for a more comfortable night's stay in the wilds. The two-person cabins - which measure 185 x 125 x 142 - can be put together in less than an hour with a screwdriver. Each shelter features a solid roof for protection from the elements and they also have insulated interiors that 'help to regulate internal temperature during both hot and cold conditions.'

This is the incredible moment a cheeky African fish eagle steals a crocodile's next meal with one swoop and grab of its razor-sharp talons. Photographs show the large bird making a precise aim for its fish dinner, with its feathered legs stretched out. In a snap second the eagle grips on to its catch with its feet and flies away, leaving the disgruntled crocodile empty-mouthed. While the fish would have only been an appetiser for the hungry reptile it looks like it would make a substantial meal for the crafty eagle. The incredible images were taken in Lower Sabie Dam in the Kruger National Park, South Africa.
The world's smallest pumpkin patch pops up at Legoland Windsor - with carvings taking 60 HOURS to complete
Carving pumpkins can prove tricky but can you imagine carving 3cm-high versions of the seasonal fruit? Well, Hedley Wiggan - a miniature artist from Bolton - set himself to the task, in a bid to create the world's smallest pumpkin patch for Legoland Windsor. It took him more than 60 hours to carefully carve 200 tiny jack-o-lanterns, giving them all unique faces as he went.

Well, for Swiss skier Jeremie Heitz, 27, this thought filled him with delight instead of dread. Photographs capture Heitz in action as he descended the mountain in the Pennine Alps - his tiny silhouette barely distinguishable against the vast, snowy landscape. The extreme sportsman took to the slope while filming an adrenaline-pumping video for Red Bull. For the project he selected 15 of his dream peaks to ski down.
