Dakota and Elle Fanning's parents are divorcing after almost 27 years of marriage

The father of actresses Dakota and Elle Fanning filed for divorce from their mother on Thursday in Los Angeles.

Steven Fanning cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split from wife Heather after nearly 27 years of marriage, according to an article by TMZ.

It was unclear if any spousal support was being sought as Steven did not check any boxes seeking support from Heather.

However Steven and Heather will still have to determine how to split their property.

Dakota and Elle were both born in Conyers, Georgia.

Heather was a former professional tennis player and Steven played minor league baseball.
