'I am very fat right now': Charlize Theron pokes fun at herself at amfAr's Inspiration Gala after Chelsea Handler jokes about weight gain

She's apparently gained over 30 pounds for her new movie role.

And Charlize Theron happily poked fun at herself on Thursday when comedian Chelsea Handler made a quip about her fuller figure at the 2016 amfAR Inspiration Gala. 

The blonde beauty, 41, was honored at the black tie event and joked: 'Yes, I am very fat right now' as Handler presented her with her award.

Instead of a figure-hugging dress, the Oscar winner paired a full-length black gown with a tailored black jacket for the evening that raises money to fund the nonprofit organization's AIDS research programs. 

Theron's dress featured lace detailing along the low-cut neckline that revealed just a hint of cleavage.

The skirt was gathered slightly at the bodice and had a lace overlay over the solid underslip.

The actress wore her signature blonde hair tied back into a rather severe updo but softened her face by adding a pair of stunning chandelier diamond earrings.

Charlize Theron joined fellow A-listers Heidi Klum, Courtney Love and Chelsea Handler at the 2016 amfAR Inspiration Gala in LA.

Of course the South African beauty wore her favorite brand to the event - Dior. She teamed her black lace maxi dress with a matching blazer and wore a pair of diamond drop earrings by Harry Winston for an elegant finish.

During the reception, dinner and musical entertainment, Theron was presented with the Inspiration Award for her work in fighting HIV/AIDS with the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project.

'Despite our best intentions, sometimes people are still falling through the cracks and too many are not being seen,' Theron said when she took to the stage. 

'It's tough to admit that as much progress as we've made, sometimes it feels like we're failing the ones that need us the most.

The actress emphasized that there's still work to be done, 'We need big and bold investments in outreach,

'We need big bold ideas to fight poverty [and] end discrimination in hard to reach places.' 

Charlize has gained a reported 35 pounds for her new role in Tully, directed by Jason Reitman.

She plays a mother whose brother hires her a nanny after she gives birth to her third child. 

For her Academy Award winning role in Monster, Charlize gained 30 pounds in the film which saw her celebrated with 17 acting honours.
