'I'm sure he'll be absolutely fine': Karl Stefanovic weighs in on billionaire James Packer's rumoured split from pop diva Mariah Carey

Channel Nine's Karl Stefanovic has weighed in on his good friend James Packer's rumoured split from American pop sensation Mariah Carey. 

The humorous Today host was badgered with questions about the estranged couple's split, in Sydney on Thursday, amid rumours of a cheating scandal.

Karl, 42, expressed his support to waiting photographers while also remaining tight-lipped - saying: 'I love James Packer and I'm sure he'll be absolutely fine.'

The popular breakfast television host added: 'I have no idea what's going on.'

On Friday morning, Sunrise appeared to confirm split rumours after Mariah's camp released a raw statement to the show.

'Mariah Carey and James Packer had a fight in Greece. They have not seen each other since,' the statement read.

'The fight was not because of cheating allegations or excessive spending by Mariah. James is one of the most successful businessmen in the world.

'They are trying to work it out but right now they are not sure if they will stay together. They are discussing it and plan to release a statement about their future.'

James failed to attend Mariah's Halloween party over the weekend, where the star was seen posing for photos with ex-husband Nick Cannon and their two children.

There has been much speculation about the cause of the split, with TMZ initially claiming that the R&B diva had a rendezvous with one of her dancers during her Las Vegas residency.

Allegations have since been made about his conduct on their Greece trip, which his camp have branded 'simply untrue.'

James and Mariah became engaged in January, after a whirlwind romance of less than a year. 

Karl and James have been close friends for some time, with the pair making headlines in June after the breakfast television was pictured on James' Yacht.

Karl was seen posed with James' business partner Brett Ratner, in which the pair enjoyed some down-time in St Tropez a week after the Nice terror attacks.

Meanwhile, Karl has faced his own relationship woes, following his recent separation from Cassandra Thorburn.

He reportedly moved out of his Sydney family home to stay with his younger brother Peter Stefanovic at his Bondi apartment.

The couple share three children - Jackson, 16, Ava, 11, and 10-year-old River.
