Role models: The 12 women featured in the high-fashion photo series will also appear in the upcoming documentary Straight/Curve

Jenny McQuaile, the director of Straight/Curve, told Daily Mail Online that many women aren't being represented as most high-fashion campaigns tend to only feature straight-size models.

'Women over a size 4, older women and oftentimes black or Latina women are not shot with a high-end aesthetic in high-fashion clothes, amazing lighting or through the same lens we are so accustomed to seeing straight-size models,' she said.

However, in this empowering series of images, Iskra, 26, is showing off her famous curves in a black bra and embroidered skirt while posing with Sabina, 28.

Strike a pose: Emme, 53, is considered one of the first plus-size supermodels, and she proudly dons a curve-hugging white dress in one of her photos from the shoot

The two are pictured facing away from the camera as their curly hair blows around them.

Anastasia told Daily Mail Online that the idea behind the shoot was to create the 'type of highly polished fashion images we are accustomed to seeing' that feature 'models we aren't so accustomed to seeing'.

'Taking inspiration from the great iconic fashion photographer Richard Avedon, my goal was to create a simple studio environment where the focus could be solely on the women,' she explained.

Loving your body: Straight-sized model Erica Krauter admitted that she used to be insecure about her size because people have accused her of being too thin

Jennie, a 27-year-old curvy model who has posed for H&M, wears a black velvet hat featuring a red rose in her portrait, while Erica, a straight-sized model, flaunts a sliver of her stomach in a two-piece black and white houndstooth ensemble.

When sharing one of the image from the shoot on her Instagram page, Erica explained that she was insecure about her body for years because people would accuse her of being too thin.

'Straight/petite is what I am, battling so many years of insecurities of my own expectations, no expectations, only self love we need in this world,' she wrote.

'So if you were bullied or picked on for being too skinny, your not alone!'

Unique beauties: Robyn Lawley, Charli Howard, Nicola Griffin, Jennie Runk, and Denise Bidot (from left to right) are pictured together

Jenesee, who has styled everyone from Amy Schumer to Daniel Radcliffe, admitted that it was difficult to pull clothes from the shoot, noting that she was surprised by how many people 'who were afraid to be involved' in the empowering project.

'Dressing such an array of different sized bodies was a challenge because of how the fashion industry is built,' she explained. 'Most designer runway samples are a size 2 while most plus fashion brands samples are a 14-16. There is a lot in between 2-16.

'There was a lot of pinning down oversized items and unzipping or opening smaller items,' she added. 'Not everything is going to look good on everybody but there is something out there for everybody.'

Jenny said that she hopes these iconic photos will 'challenge society’s current unrealistic standards of beauty, and really question what is standing in the way of more diverse and inclusive images in the fashion industry and media'.
