YUKONER SET FOR HUGE HONOUR

YUKONER SET FOR HUGE HONOUR – Stephanie Dixon, a 19-time Paralympic medallist and champion for para sport, will be inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame tonight in Toronto. She retired from competitive swimming in 2010, and has contributed to the Whitehorse sports community as a former coach for the Glacier Bears Swim Team. She now coaches the Graylings Masters Swim Club and is a personal trainer. Dixon posed for a photo last Thursday after coaching a swim practice at the Canada Games Centre.

TALES FROM A CATASTROPHIC EVENT – Morgan Wienberg has been in Haiti for five years providing care through self-sufficiency programs for rescued Haitian children living in situations of abuse. The founder of Little Footprints Big Steps gave a talk about the destruction from the latest hurricane to students at Porter Creek Secondary School on Thursday afternoon.

A LOT TO LOOK AT – Artist Ali Khoda is seen last Friday with his mural at Lumel Studios. Khoda has created a number of murals around Whitehorse, including one at BYTE and Splintered Craft.

HALLOWEEN HORROR – The Music, Arts and Drama (MAD) program will present ‘The 2016 MAD Haunted House’ at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at the Wood Street Centre. They are also presenting shows for schools.

TIME TO TEASE – ‘Varietease’ will open this evening at the Yukon Arts Centre. The burlesque show runs at 9 p.m. until Saturday, with midnight showings on Friday and Saturday.
