'He isn’t a nasty, jealous or controlling person': Cheryl's ex-husband Jean-Bernard 'is convinced the singer is trying to make life difficult for him', new reports claim

Their short-lived marriage came to an end in a 14-second court hearing last week.

And a source close to Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, 36, has reportedly disputed claims made by someone close to Cheryl, 33, that the Frenchman was jealous and controlling during their relationship.

Speaking to The Sun, the insider said: 'JB isn’t a nasty, jealous or controlling person, and those close to him are horrified this is what is being said.

'He is convinced that behind the scenes and her team are trying to make life for him here difficult. She made it clear to him when they split up that she would prefer it if he wasn’t here.

'But the way he sees it, he moved here for her, so why should he now have to move again?'

A representative for Jean-Bernard declined to comment when approached by MailOnline. A rep for Cheryl is yet to respond.

In papers filed at the court the 33-year-old singer, who now just calls herself Cheryl, cited the Frenchman’s ‘unreasonable behaviour’ as the reason for divorce, claiming it had caused her ‘stress and weight loss’.

Cheryl and Jean-Bernard married on Mustique in the West Indies on July 7, 2014, having known each other for about 12 weeks after meeting at the Cannes film festival.

It is understood they had signed a pre-nuptial agreement, meaning Jean-Bernard walked away with none of Cheryl’s estimated £20million fortune.

Both parties also signed a confidentiality agreement, preventing either from talking about their time together – or their split.

Cheryl went public with current boyfriend Liam Payne in February, shortly after it was announced that her marriage to Jean-Bernard was over.

It later came to light that the couple had struck up a bond during filming for the 2015 series of the X Factor, on the approach to last Christmas.

They first met when a 14-year-old Liam auditioned for the singing competition as a solo artist in 2008 and Cheryl - married at the time to first husband Ashley Cole - was serving on the panel as a judge.

Cheryl's best friend and former band mate Kimberley Walsh has previously hinted that Cheryl is so 'happy right now' and that she gets broody around son Bobby, two.

Meanwhile claims that they are expecting their first child are reaching fever pitch.
