'I meant to hit the brake but I accidentally hit the accelerator,' he said.

The man's car went over the bank of the lake and into the water and started to sink.

His car door was locked, and he had to climb out an open window to escape from the sinking car.

The NSW Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW and paramedics attended the scene.

The man was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

There were no other passengers in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
