NFPA and LEGOLAND® Florida Resort join forces on Firefighter Fridays

Family fun and incentives kick off Oct. 14

Legoland FloridaOctober 12, 2016 – The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and LEGOLAND® Florida Resort are hosting a Firefighter Fridays campaign throughout the month of October at the popular Winter Haven, Fla. theme park. Collaborating with Polk County firefighters, NFPA and LEGOLAND Florida Resort will promote this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme, “Don’t Wait – Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years” onsite and during outreach to LEGOLAND Florida Resort followers. Fire Prevention Week, the oldest public health campaign on record, is going on right now, Oct. 9-15.

Families visiting the Florida destination on Friday, Oct. 14 will enjoy a day full of fun activities and firefighter engagement including trivia, a passport contest, and a spirited competition at Rescue Academy, a hands-on attraction sponsored by NFPA. The Winter Haven Fire Department will bring a fire truck and children can try on uniforms. In addition, first responders will receive a 10 percent discount at Firehouse Ice Cream in the theme park’s LEGO® City area. Every Friday throughout the rest of the month, Polk County firefighters will staff a booth inside the park and provide giveaways.

“LEGOLAND Florida Resort supports NFPA’s public education efforts and shares our respect for first responders,” said Lorraine Carli, NFPA’s vice president of Outreach and Advocacy. “Our year-round collaboration with LEGOLAND allows us to extend the reach of NFPA’s fire safety messaging to families in a fun, interactive way. We applaud the Firefighter Fridays outreach taking place at LEGOLAND Florida Resort throughout October.”

“We’re thrilled to partner with a respected organization like NFPA on fire prevention advocacy,” said Adrian Jones, general manager of LEGOLAND Florida Resort. “Each year we look forward to celebrating our first responders and fire prevention with a month full of family engagement activities.”

NFPA and LEGOLAND Florida Resort forged a public education partnership in 2012. As the official fire safety partner of LEGOLAND Florida Resort and LEGOLAND California Resort, key NFPA fire safety messages are incorporated into park activities and promoted via high-profile signage throughout the Winter Haven, Fla. and Carlsbad, Calif. parks.
