'It takes two to tango!' Viewers defend controversial Teen Mom UK stars after they are blasted as 'idiots' on Twitter

Three women who appeared onThis Morning in a bid to tackle misconceptions about teenage mums have left viewers divided.

Chloe Patton, 18, Amber Butler, 19, and Mia Boardman, 20, all gave birth when they were in their teens and spoke today of the challenges and prejudices they have faced.

The trio appear on MTV reality show Teen Mom UK, which follows the lives of British parents as they adapt to raising a baby, and had its long-awaited premiere last night - raising more than a few eyebrows and attracting dozens of critical tweets.

The young women were blasted as being 'stupid' and received a barrage of insults online, but viewers appeared to warm to them following their This Morning appearance on Thursday.

Leaping to their defence, Kayla-Rae Valentin tweeted: 'Why are people leaving such nasty comment just because they're teen mums so what it takes TWO to tango (sic.).'

Carley-Jayne added: 'So nice seeing young teen mums on @thismorning and not being ridiculed for their age or immaturity, instead respected as a mum whatever their age.'

Twitter user Kels wrote: 'Teen mums on @thismorning are doing us young mums proud.' She added: '7 years ago I was in their boat, about time young mums shrugged off the bad stigma.'

Laura Smart called them 'lovely girls' and commented: 'They should be proud of themselves, good luck to you and your children.'

Charmaine Hatch tweeted: 'So many stereotypes with teen pregnancy. I had my daughter at 16, I've achieved my degree and I'm now a full time staff nurse.'

The tweets were in stark contrast to comments left by a handful of viewers who poked fun at the girls and suggested they needed a lesson in sex education.

Others compared them to Jeremy Kyle guests and labelled them 'idiots'.

But Chloe, who appeared on the ITV chat show alongside her son Marley, said they wanted to prove that 'we're not sitting on our bums doing nothing - we're working really hard for our children.'

The 18-year-old, who fell pregnant after her contraceptive pill stopped working during a course of antibiotics, also stressed that she would 'hate' for people to see her son as a 'mistake'. 

'I can't imagine my life without him at all,' she gushed. '[The pregnancy] was an accident but a good accident.

'I think we just wanted to show everyone that it's not all glamorous - it's dirty nappies and crying babies - but we're doing our absolute best.'

Amber, who is mother to Brooklyn, said she was also keen to challenge misconceptions. 

She said: 'I do know what people think of teen mums just claiming off the government. [But] I found out I was pregnant at college and I decided to stay on. 

'It was hard to concentrate and stuff but I still did it, I managed to get good grades which I'm quite surprised about.'

She explained that she was now living on her own and handling expenses including bills, rent and shopping.

Meanwhile Mia Boardman, mother to Marliya, was quizzed by Holly on her decision to give birth on screen, in an episode that she has not yet seen.

She replied: 'I completely forgot [the cameras] were there. I can't wait to watch it and I can't wait for Marliya to watch it when she's older.'

The girls also had a word of advice to fellow teenage mothers, with Chloe saying: 'Keep your head up high. If I could have I would have waited but things happen for a reason.'

On Teen Mom UK, the nation will see the mothers' tears, trials and relationship drama on their pregnancy journey.

The five teens dressed up for the launch and sat on a panel this week to talk about giving birth at a young age and educating young women.

The event included inspirational talks and advice on topics like careers, fashion, childcare and medical queries.

MTV's Teen Mom has already raised a few eyebrows in the US for showing the gritty reality of becoming a mother before adulthood.

Needless to say the show proved a huge hit and attracted more than 12 million UK viewers alone.

The show hopes to educate young women and is teaming up with Brook, the leading sexual health and well-being charity for young people, and Gingerbread, the leading charity working with single parent families.

What the show is guaranteed to do is to give a glimpse into the gritty reality of being a teenage mother.
