The trio looked like they were having the best time as they cheered on the New York Knicks animatedly in their battle against the Houston Rockets.

Her sons could not contain their excitement as the players bounced up and down the court - opening their mouths wide in celebration when their team scored and clapping excitedly in the stands.

After all the frivolity, Cate then enjoyed a more tender moment with her son Ronan - drawing him into a sweet hug and affectionately planting a kiss on his head during a quieter moment of the game.

Cate even managed to maintain the effortless glamour she is known for at the casual game - heading courtside in chic leather trousers and a crisp white shirt.

The Academy Award winner then layered a quirky fluffy black cardigan on top, which was embellished with a huge silver diamanté star on the front.

Adding matching leather loafers and a pair of quirky Aviator sunglasses with pastel pink lenses, the star looked comfy but seriously cool as she enjoyed the exciting game.

Meanwhile her boys have no doubt inherited some of their mother's natural style - attending alongside the Blue Jasmine star in bright coral chinos and pairs of trendy athletics trainers of bright colours.

The Elizabeth actress is also mother to younger son Ignatius, 8, and adopted daughter Edith with husband of 11 years Andrew Upton - who were not present for the fun afternoon out.

Andrew was spotted getting cosy with Australian actress and long time friend Harriet Dyer early last month.

The pair were videoed with their arms around each other and speaking quietly as they enjoyed drinks in a Sydney pub.

According to New Idea, the 27-year-old Love Child actress was overheard explaining to other Australian actors at the No Activity premiere a few weeks later that the pair were 'just having drinks after a show'.

The blonde beauty referred to Andrew as a 'notorious party boy', but maintained she had been in contact with Cate, who said there were no ill feelings between them.

Cate has been busy in New York recently, having kicked off filming for new hit film Ocean's Eight.

The film, which stars an all-female cast including Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway, is set for release in summer 2018.

The Carol star's busy schedule does not stop there however - with animated flick How To Train Your Dragon 3 also in the pipeline.
